Weighing Hand Luggage & Charges
Out thieves today were GLOBESPAN !! They weighed all HAND luggage today & everybody on the flight had to pay extra (7 euros a kilo). 1 bloke complained tht his luggage weighed 17kgs in edinburgh but on the return journey it was 21kgs (he nvr had any hand luggage & never bought any extras)....Nobody from Globespan had an office to explain but that's the first time I've ever had hand luggage weighed !! Spoiled a good holiday....

BMI Baby - Manchester weighed our hand luggage back in April. We knew we would be over the limit with all our luggage but didn't realise by how much..........£72 excess!!
Fortunately, it was a one off and now travel light.

We flew with Jet2 and they weighed the hand luggage at Manchester. I bought one of those little gadgets that weighs your luggate - up to 22kgs. It was £7 from BA and is brilliant - but someone at work has just told me that they are selling them at Aldi for £3.99 at the moment.
The only problem was - one of my cases went off the scale on the way back so I knew that it was over 22kgs! Damn those Mallorcan shoe shops.... Anyway, Jet2 at Palma didn't bother. I had my credit card as I was convinced that we would be charged excess but there was no problem.
I honestly think it depends on who it checking you in and whether they are in a good mood or not!

On our Globespan flight on Saturday, just about everyone seemed to be getting charged for excess baggage, we were only 4kg over for 3 adults and would have been charged had we not paid for the extra weight allowance when we originally booked the flights.

Try flying with Easyjet, there is no limit on hand luggage only that it is safe to lift into the overhead lockers, 20 kg of hold luggage costs £14.

It must fit inside the little measuring cage though! Size is checked rather than weight. Seems to work well.

Like mother - definately not like daughter! She has just left with her friends for a week in Tenerife and her case only weighed 18kg!!! I dread to think what she is actually wearing half the time!

Invest in one of these ultra-light sports bag thingys from Tesco etc, some only weigh about 1.5 kgs, they give you a lot of leeway. Even if you only use them for 1 holiday they're cost effective(i,ve already used mine for 3). I weighed in recently at 14 kgs for a 5 week holiday. Make no mistake the airlines will screw us for every penny now. Indeed, i believe there is a budget Chinese carrier which requests you to have a pee before you go on board, as apparently every flush of the airplane loo eats up 1 ltre of oil. i kid you not. It will come to a airline near you sooner than you think.

Obviously no-one has told Ryan Air yet as I am sure they will be happy to charge everyne for a wee!!! Do you remember years ago when you put the coin in the slot in the toilet door - I remember it so well as I was about 6 and opened the door before my Mum had `finished ´and then upon closing it again we could not get out without someone putting the money in from the outside!! Oh dear I was not too popular - funny how certain things leave you traumatized for the rest of your life!!
All airlines have major problems now as everyone knows so they have to try to keep their running costs down and lets face it we all know the limits so I think its only natural that you should pay if you have over the limit - I think ALL airlines now charge for excess - about 9€ a kilo - and I find they only weigh your hand luggage IF your checked in luggage is rather close or over the limit. As a regular traveller, often with only hand luggage, I only wish they could give me a credit note for the unused luggage allowance which I could cash in after a hefty shopping trip back to Uk - or Xmas.

Weighing Luggage
I think the various surveys show we only need/use about half of what we actualy take on holiday, probably a good bit of truth in this. Hotels offer cleaning services, most apts will have a washing machine(your clothes will dry in minutes), and there are plenty of laundrettes to do the washing for you. The means are there for us to drasticaly cut the amount of clothes we take, as has been said, we all know the limits, so can't complain about being charged for excess.
