Default Passing through Palma airport - report

Well guys,

We experienced hassle free travel at its very best for our trip to PP despite all the worries about API, excess baggage charging and of course all the dreadful terror threats.

We flew with Globespan (our 10th return flight with them now) and everything ran like clockwork. Can't recommend them enough.

We flew out on 30th June from Edinburgh - the day of the Glasgow terror attack. Our flight was 8am so before the incident. It left on time. We were unpacked and sipping cava by the villa pool by 2 pm.

At Palma they brought us around to the front of the airport by bus so we didn't even have the usual 20 min walk through the airport. The bags came out quickly too! Fantastic!

We returned yesterday. There was no queue at our check in desk at Palma - an astonishing first - especially surprising since all the API bad press!

They have moved the security clearance to the main forecourt which is actually better as it means that once you are cleared you have access to all the shops rather than just those at your gate. This took a little longer as the belts, watches have to come off similar to UK airports but no probs.

Our gate was A for the first time in my experience since 1999 but as we were so early (2 1/2 hours to wait as a result of no queing) we strolled along to the usual gate C for a bite to eat.

Flight boarded on time and left 10 mins early!! No probs when we arrived in Edinburgh 1/2 hour early (expect the usual wait for bags.)

All in all a very good experience. How could this be so? 10% luck - 90% Globespan.

Hi lola70w

Thanks for the report very comforting to hear of you smooth passage through the airport as we fly out 2 weeks today, lucky to get a lift from the plane to the terminal to save the walk, I hope they do that for us.

Hi lola,

I am glad you have had more luck than us with Globespan this year, I think they have gone from the best Scottish airline to the worst. Since May this year we have had delays of 2.5, 4, 8, 8, 8 & 9 hours, plus one which was delayed so long I had to book a flight with another airline.

One recent report stated that more complaints had been received about Globespan this year than for all other British Airlines put together.

Hi PP,

That's unbelievable - what a nightmare you have had! Suppose its luck really and we have maybe just been lucky.

We have used Globespan since before it became flyglobespan and in over 20 flights have only been delayed once - the year of the coach strike (maybe 2002?) All airlines had difficulties that weekend.

Disappointed to hear of the report of complaints as I sure will Globespan who won airline of the year or something last year.

Hi Lala,

To be fair we have used Globespan since they started, numerous times each year, and until this year they have been very good. I hope they will get back to normal soon.
To make matters worse last night not only did the plane not arrive until 12.45am, Glasgow Airport then had a problem with the conveyor belt and it took a further 45 minutes to get the luggage.

Still looking forward to our next visit to PP.
