Default Flights from Barcelona to Palma

Hi all,

I am looking at taking the family to Barcelona for a few days early next summer, and then flying across to Majorca for a week in PP.

Has anyone any experiance of Iberia's flights on this route, and any pitfalls / problems?

TIA

I've heard some horror stories about Iberia and delays so when I wanted to fly to Barcelona from Palma in April I booked with Spanair. We were delayed both ways and when you leave home expecting to be eating lunch in Barcelona and only going for a couple of days this was a real drag to say the least. The business men were up in arms as you would expect, missed meetings etc. To rub salt in the wound all other flights (including Iberia) from Palma to Barcelona that morning were leaving on time (I really wished I hadn't checked in a bag!)

Anyway, what I've learnt is that all airlines are the same at the end of the day - delays unfortunately happen!

We flew this route a few years ago. Our flights for that trip were booked via air miles and the only partner that flew to Palma was Iberia but we would have to stop in Barcelona. I have to say that it was extremely efficient and as my husband is a Barcelona football fan - he was delighted that he could go into the Barcelona fc shop at the airport.

Iberia were great - everything scheduled and my husband was definitely sulking when not fancying my usual Bacardi, I opted for a sparkling wine, which was Freixenet - very civilsed. We also found that the gates were much nearer for arrivals and departures. Rather than the usual mile walk for the British flights, it was about the nearest gate to the area after security.

Only downside was that we had to leave Palma at 9.00am, which meant leaving the Port very early - people were still outside Chivas as we were leaving the Hostal Borras in the square!

Thanks for the replies so far.

We will probably use Globespan for the Glasgow - Barcelona and Palma - Glasgow legs, so its really only the Spanish domestic leg I have concerns with.

From looking at the website it looks efficient enough, and most airlines do have occasional (or not so occasional) problems.

We shall see...!

Thanks cd,

I was aware of ther ferry, and had considered it. But my elder daughter dislikes ferries, and although she is not too keen on flights either, at least its only 45 mins as opposed to 5 hours (or so).

So the plane it is - probably!

Thanks again,

Yep - I looked into this before. Depending on the ferry company it can take anythhing from 6 - 7 1/2 hours. :eek I couldn't understand this as it looks like a similar distance as if crossing from Dover to Calais. But then on my map that's less than an inch! :lol

What about the fast ferry that goes direct from Barcelona to Alcudia. Takes about two hours. We were talking to a restauarant owner in the Port who is a Barcelona FC supporter and my husband was asking him how he usually travels to matches when he goes and he said that this was a really good service.

Cocoa - I'd be interested in hearing more - that would be a do-able day trip from PP. The Balearia Ferry seems to take 5 3/4 hours Alcudia - Barcelona.

Hi - I'll see what I can find out. He just called it the 'fast ferry' - definitely said it only took two hours.

Just looked into this and I think he was slightly exaggerating! It looks like it is the TurboCat from Alcudia which takes three hours.
Still better though!
