Default Air Berlin/More rip-offs

I've just found out that Air Berlin are no longer flying from Stansted to Palma. We've been waiting for the summer flights to come out and in the end called them and were told that Ryanair have taken over their slots.

I'm not at all happy as I don't like Ryanair. What made me really mad though (and I know this has been covered in a separate thread) is all the additional costs and charges which Air Berlin never charged for. Breakdown is:

Air fare £639.92 (for 4 of us)

Priority Board £16.00 (OK...we could have opted out of this)
Web baggage fee £20.00
Credit card fee £16.00
Airport check-in fee £16.00
Other taxes, fees and charges £159.64

Total: £867.56

I think it's a total rip-off!>:

We flew with Air Berlin to Berlin and it was fantastic...I had three seats to myself on the way back. The kids were in front and hubby had a choice of another three rows if he wanted. Check-in was easy and there were no queues. Free soft drinks and a bagel offered during the flight...what more could you want!

I will miss them so much in August...

Air Berlin (AB) gave up the direct Stansted to Palma route at the end of October last year. There is no need to fly Ryanair, however, Easyjet has been serving Palma from Stansted for years. My wife and I used AB for the three years they flew the route but went back to EYZ for our trip this month. Not quite as good as AB but not too bad.

Unfortunately I panicked when I booked our flights. We'd been waiting so long for the Air Berlin flights to appear (which was silly really, because they came out in October 2005 and 2006 and I should have realised) that I just grabbed at the first availability I saw. However, the price was good and we saved £200 on our flights from Air Berlin last year.

If I'd researched flights properly, like I normally do, I would have been much more sensible, but I really do have a thing about Easyjet. Unfortunately it stems from flights to Berlin we took with them a couple of years ago and the way we were treated and I just can't bring myself to fly with them again. Silly, but there you are!

Amazingly, we could have flown with Lufthansa via Dusseldorf (I think) for the same price and at around the same time! But it meant flying from Heathrow which I wasn't keen on!

Lesson learned...:rolleyes

Welcome to the forum anyway!

Jane
