Default Palma airport

Just a note of our experience coming out yesterday. From take off to exiting Palma airport 2.5 hours, brilliant. Passport control completely empty, walked straight through and bags were off 10 minutes later, just lucky I suppose.
Only problem was the 4 hour delay in the UK.
Also a thumbs up for Terry´s car hire a little confusion over where the car was parked but quickly resolved. Virtually brand new Focus hybrid.

I think it must be down to timing. My son came out for Half term and the queue for passport control was over 45 minutes, but coming home was a breeze. Whatever the delays and difficulties, my heart goes out to all those poor people who have suffered the heartbreak of last minute cancellations.

I had a message from EJ yesterday saying our August outbound flight from LGW had been cancelled, but we got on an earlier flight. All of which sounds fine, until you factor in the car hire booked many months ago at a reasonable rate, which if amended now, has to be cancelled and rebooked at the current super extortionate rate. I paid 525euros and now its 1175 euros!

So, will have to hang around the airport for hours now. Might get a taxi to Can Pastilla for a meal.

#5 Raises an interesting point. Generally speaking, the ‘British’ invariably stick by the rules (ie you have a booking, you stick by that booking), as invisaged in #4. However, fil6699 has now gone totally EU, and suggested one bends or ignores the rules (contract) to suit your own purposes. In my former life, a signed contract with many religious/political beliefs was merely a beginning for further negotiations. It’s a shame that this mindset is spreading..

I was suggesting that maybe he will be lucky and they will honour his booking so that he does not have to sit in the airport for hours. I think you will find that is called using your intuitive not the crime of the century, some times common sense prevails. And does not lead to eternal damnation.
Many people are being put in almost impossible situations through no fault of there own . Why should they be punished for other peoples short comings?

Can't see any rules being broken. I thought it was a great suggestion, which one might not think of initially.

There's already a valid booking, albeit for later in the day.
Rather than amending the booking, which might be the initial reaction to not spending most of the day at the airport, but doesn't make any sense with the price difference, it's merely the idea of asking the car hire company whether they can accommodate the customer, who arrived early due to a flight time change.
If they don't, they just pick up the car as per the booking time.

The car hire companies might mostly deal with flight time delays, but they must have customers arriving on earlier flights as well.

The way the flights are getting rearranged all over the place at the moment, they might not bat an eyelid.

I would give it a go at the car hire desk explaining the reasons and asking if by chance they had a car available now. If not, leave your cases in left luggage and pop in a taxi to Can Pastilla for lunch.
We have done this when dropping my daughter off and having a few hours to spend before picking up some friends coming in. We had a lovely walk along the sea front and a lunch.

Well, as it happens....I emailed them asking if they would bring the booking forward four hours and they have obliged FOC.

Now, its probably my previous experience of car hire companies that meant I was not expecting a positive response, but they have come up trumps. So once again Vanrell proving to be a good company to deal with. Well played them.

Arrived Sunday around 11am from Southampton. Bus to terminal - electric passport gates working with minimal queues but queue for families - children under 16 was huge and I would expect an hours wait! Sailed through health check and surprised that some people were standing aside as they had not down loaded there vaccine QR code from the app!!
Anyway - unusually we had luggage and our luggage was on same carousel as a Newcastle flight - I think all the luggage left was from the families in the queue at passport control so we had to wait half an hour which was OK. Away and out the airport in an hour which we would have been please about at any time of year. Just to say - after travelling many times in the last 3 years during Covid times and having a very quiet Puerto Pollensa it is now exceptionally busy!

Thank you for the reminder about the QR code. I thought the need to show this had ended!

It's much quicker & easier to just print it off, & sail through while others fiddle with their phones.

If you are fully vaccinated you don't need the Spanish QR code. you just need your NHS pass.
