sa calobra

.has anyone been out to sa calobra is the road realy as exciting as it looks on the map.this site is very biased and I don't know why.

The actual road down to Sa Calobra from the main Lluc/Soller road is twisty and I imagine it wouldnt be much fun to do in the dark. But it's a good bit of "real driving". Consider that the day trip coaches easily manage it, so driving it in a car is a comparative doddle.

Although not if youre actually stuck behind a coach it isnt!

Hi Peter and welcome, if you check out the list of threads here in Excursions out & about, you will see the is a another thread called Sa Calobra which has information you may find useful including alternative ways of getting there if you don’t wish to drive, I have driven it and its not too bad.

We once did the Sa Calobra road back in the 80's in an old Hillman Avenger Estate - when we got to the bottom we investigated the burning smell to find it was the disc brakes and they were still glowing red!!!

Went down to Sa Calobra in the 70's in a rented Seat 500 and nearly frightened my missus to death ( she was on the side facing the drop to oblivion) Must be better now though, surely.

I'm not sure the driver of the coach that we saw lying on it's side on the wrong side of the parapet wall last year would agree with that Zurdo!!!

Sa Calobra

Make sure to arrive before 10:00am to avoid the endless caravan of buses. You'll also avoid the crush of tourists disembarking from those buses. That said, it's definitely worth the trip. Bring a picnic breakfast with you -- coffee, bread, cheese. And don't forget your camera :)

We got the bus from PP to Sa Colobra. It is not a full coach size bus and seemed to managed the trip very well. I would not recommend the journey for anyone who suffers from travel sickness though, the road winds and winds backs on itself to the bottom. It might be nice to do the journey from Soller by boat if you do not fancy the drive.
