Played the new Nicklaus designed course at Puntiro recently. Its a good layout although because of the recent storms the greens were a bit spongy. A friend of mine played it early in October and said the greens were fine then. It is well worth a visit. Its a bit artificial in places but thats the way when you are building a course these days and you need it to have a bit of a wow factor.

I also paid my second visit to Son Gual (first time was back in February) and found it to be absolutely first class in every respect. The only downside is the green fee at 150 Euros, but the quality of the course makes it just about worth it. It is a seriously difficult golf course but in an enjoyable way!

I also played Carpdepera and Canyamel out near Arta. Generally at this time of year both courses are heavily frequented by German holidaymakers. It was noticeably less busy this year (the credit crunch effect). It is tedious taking 5 or 6 hours to get round so the speedier play was welcome. Both courses were in good condition and very enjoyable.

Is there any update on the situation with Pollensa. Last time I played in October it was still in desperate condition.

I too played Pollensa at the end of October. It was, as Rab says, in desperate condition. There was a temporary green at the second hole that was so poor it was not worth playing on. The whole place looked pretty shoddy. It's a shame as it has some wonderful holes and can be a fun place to spend a couple of hours.

Default Pollenca Golf

Played nine holes today and although the greens were much improved since October the rest of the course wa honkin! Sorry Nick but its true!

The tees were shocking and the fairways were poor. The bunkers hadnt been raked and all-in-all a waste of 40 euros.

Going out for some golf in mid October - we are planning to play Alcanada, Capdepera, Puntiro, Son Gual but may look at one or two others.

I've played all the courses in the Arta area as well as Bendinat, Poniente and Son Termens - any recommendations for any of the others on the island would be appreciated.
