Default Insect Traps ?

What are the plastic type bags hanging from trees along the roadside at various locations round the island ?

I have seen them on trees in csv for as long as i can remember like you i think they are some sort of insect survey. Would it be possible to ask any official dept. ( enviroment) in majorca? I would be very interested to know the correct reason for them

We were told the bags were to trap the actual moth or the larvae of the processionary moth as they are causing widespread damage to the pine trees. They are responsible for the patches of brown/dead areas that you see on some of the pines.

I dont know if this is the actual project but it is obviously a widespread European problem.

yes that's what we were told , when we stayed at the eolo last year they had them hanging and we asked Carlos what and why... and that's exactly what he said !! i do find it funny tho, when there's been a big storm and we go out for breakfast to see the 'bags' bulging full of rainwater!!
Careful where you sit!!
Love bonez x
