Menorca

Not really a day trip but wasn't sure where else to post... We were thinking of combining our next trip to PP with a few days in Menorca. Has anyone else done this and, if so, what does it involve? I think I'm right in saying you can get a boat from Alcudia - but how long does this take? I'd also welcome any recommendations of where to stay (we would be looking for somewhere quiet, a beautiful location, ideally near a beach and not too busy. A boutique-type hotel rather than a large complex). I have never been to Menorca so it is all new to me!

Thanks in advance.

Plenty of good advice within these links.

You can indeed get the boat from Alcudia to Ciutadella which is a lovely town to visit and stay.

Two ferry companies operate this route from Alcudia:

https://www.iscomar.com/default.asp ( old boat that takes around 2.30 minutes)

https://www.balearia.com/wps/portal/...etPortlet=true ( more modern boats and some with fast Ferry that reduces the time by half )

Here are some guides to Menorca for you to pick what you think is most suitable and half the fun!.....Good luck.

My wife and I went to Menorca last year for our 20th anniversary at the end of May. There are two ferries operate from Alcudia Port. Iscomar is cheap and slow (2.5hrs) and Balearia is more comfortable and faster (1.5hrs). Not sure about price as we get the 50% residents discount but I think you will pay between 200-350 euros return for the two of you dependant on which service you choose and when you go. The ferry Port on menorca is a ten minute taxi ride into the centre of Cuitadella which is where I would recommend for a short stay.

ps - I think there is also a ferry from Palma to Mahon but I am told it takes 6 hours.

Love Menorca:):) Cala'n Bosch is our favourite resort, which is about 15 mins from Ciutadella. Not many small hotels in the resorts though, it is more complexes although there are a few good ones in Cala'n Bosch. La Quinta, Macarella, Princessa Playa and Casas Del Lago are all good accommodation with La Quinta possibly being the closest to a boutique hotel.....probably also the most expensive. Ciutadella would also be a nice place to stay. If you want to venture further across the island I would recommend Cala Galdana or Santo Tomas which are both quiet resorts and have some good hotels/apartments. Also Fornells is very quiet. Good luck:)

We haven't been for a number of years so I hope the above info is still as we experienced it;)

There are plenty of hotels available to book via AlphaRooms.

Kate i just did a quick search on the Direct Ferries website, in September for 2 adults and 2 children on the fast ferry from Alcudia to Cuitadella (an hour and a half) return came out at approx 268€ :).

Thank you so much, everyone! I really like the sound of Ciutadella - and am delighted that the ferry journey is so short - will have to get organising now!
