Default Ascension Day

I read that 15th August, being Ascension Day,is a public holiday.Does this that EVERYTHING is closed that day, bars and restaurants included, or just most shops?
I remember being near Athens once on the Greek easter day and there was nothing at all open, not even the mcdonalds!!

Sparky,
has there been any info about this?
We are arriving on 14th evening and wouldn't want to be left without food or drinks for a couple of days if the shops are shut!!!
would be great to know what restaurants are open so have that as a back up too!
Thanks!

Default The Festa de la Mare de Déu

Tomorrow, August 15th, Catholic Spain celebrates the Festa de la Mare de Déu, the ascension and assumption of the Virgin Mary. In Mallorca, the Madonna will be on display in churches in Alaró, Algaïda, s’Arracó, Artà, Binissalem, Calvià, Campanet, Campos, Capdepera, Costitx, Felanitx, Fornalutx, Inca, Lloret de Vistalegre, Llubí, Manacor, Maria de la Salut, Montuïri, Muro, Petra, Pina, Sa Pobla, Porreres, Puigpunyent, Sant Joan, Santa Maria del Cami, Santanyí, Selva, Sencelles, Sineu, Sóller, Son Servera, Valldemossa and Palma, with twelve churches participating in the island capital, including the Cathedral. You don’t have to be particularly religiously minded to enjoy the festively decorated and sometimes pompously laid out Sleeping Virgin sculptures, often of Mediaeval origins. Most presentations will be shown in participating churches until the end of this month.
