Feste de la Patrona in Pollenca 2007

Aplogies for the delay but we now have the full program for the fiesta in Pollensa town, which has just started & culminates with the Moors & Christians battle on 2nd Aug - more details at www.puertopollensa.com/events.html#JulAug

Has anyone been to the Moors and Christains battle?
Is it any good?
We may be in PP this year, on the 1st Aug, so we would be able to go.

At your peril jiggy :eek !!!

We've been to Pollensa square for drinks in the evening of the fiesta a couple of times. Great fun but the later it gets and the more alcohol imbibed, I would advise not staying too late especially if you've got young children with you. We got caught up in a rampaging hoard in one of the narrow streets, when the children were small and they (and me!) were terrified.

Most people are just there to have fun but it can get very rowdy. Local friends have told us sometimes the 'mock' part of the battle is forgotten when people have old scores to resolve!

Sounds abit like Everton v Liverpool where there's only one winner. Come on you Reds.

Thanks for that, Debz. We will be with 2 kids, 16 and 13, and they want to see it. But someone else said in an earlier post on the event, that it usually gets out of hand. Hmmmmm, migt go early as you say. I wonder if we could see the fireworks from Gommar?

Snows, L*v**p**l arnt even the best team in Liverpool!!:lol :lol (Sorry Pollensa, off topic i know. But Snowy started it:lol )

Hi All hope this posts ok, I recomend trying to see the feste, we have planned our stay to Coincide with the whole weeks celebration, there are events for the whole week leading up to the Battle. Don’t be too worried by reports of the events, we took part for the whole day last year and didn’t see any trouble at all, you would have to be sensible with small children and avoid the narrower streets, but if you only hang around the main square you will get a feel for the atmosphere, all the local families are out with the small children all dressed up in costumes. The finale in the sports field would also be a good place, you can view the proceedings from the terraces and watch the final battle and celebrations from there. One thing to bear in mind is the traffic, all the roads in the area are shut off, with cars parked everywhere so if you need to get back to the port you may have to walk to find the buses back, luckily we can walk back to where we stay. So just pick your time and place and I am sure you will find it enjoyable

Scarey videos! Loved them, such atmosphere! Think I would try to see out of a window though rather than be trampled!!

Great to see the videos, it brings it all back from last year, such a good day and hot! looked out for myself but didn't see me! so looking forward to this year again.

I have boys aged 10 and 8 and plan to go up to watch it all. Is it wise to take the car up and if so, where is best to park? We dont mind walking a bit if we have to?
