Feste de la Verge delCarmen 2014

Due to various circumstances we might need to book our holidays well in advance for next year.

So with that in mind and the fact that I would love to be around when the festival is on are there any likely dates in July that I should aim for ?

Is there a set pattern for then the likely dates are ?

Thanks

Scotslizzy

As you will probably be aware, the powers that be here in PP are never very quick to release dates and info about the summer fiestas but I think if you book for the middle two weeks of July you will catch some if not all of it ;).;)

pollensa 06-10-2013 12:43

I've always been told that they aim to hold the last day i.e. the Sunday with the fireworks on the nearest date to 16th July (which is the actual fiesta date) so it should end on Sun 17th July 2014 - BUT this is not always the case & in the past I was given the wrong dates by the Tourist Office.

So we'll have to see.

17th July is a Thursday Sparky and while it would by lovely to have them on my birthday it would either be 13th or 20th July :)

Oops sorry! Not sure what calendar I was looking at it! Anyway, it should end on the nearest Sunday to Weds 16th July. As this is mid-week it it is likely to be either 13th or 20th July 2014 & we often don't know until just beforehand. :(

Cath, it was Pollensa who gave those dates but you are correct, July 17th is a Thursday ;).
As i said, it is usually in the middle of the month but we cannot give any firm dates until they are officially released :).

Ooops!! posts crossed ;).

CathB 07-10-2013 18:51

Oops sorry Sparky ..meant Pollensa but was also checking the weather and names muddled..didnt bump into you this time..perhaps January

I'm guessing still no news on the dates for the Feste de la Verge del Carmen? We'd love it if we were there for the fireworks. We're there on Sun 13th Jul but it occurs to me that it's the World Cup final that night so maybe they're more likely to make it the following weekend :( Or do you think that won't be a factor?

Sparky 22-05-2014 16:00

Nothing has been confirmed yet...as far as i know ;).

littlebird 22-05-2014 16:24

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Would far rather see fireworks than footie ;)

Have just spoken with the Tourist Information Office and they don't know yet but they will be contacting the ajuntament in the morning so i am hoping to have some info by this time tomorrow :).

pollensa 22-05-2014 17:11

I'm hoping for 20th - by chance I'll be there then for a few days (feeling hopeful - couldn't find a suitable emoticon ;))

Sparky 23-05-2014 13:47

I have just talked with the Tourist Information Office again and they say that the fiesta will take place from 6th til 13th July with the sea procession and fireworks on Sunday 13th.

Oh well. It'll be nice & quiet when I arrive on 16th then. :(

LK1960 23-05-2014 18:26

I booked to be there 13th & 20th just to be sure - we love the atmosphere during this fiesta. Had expected it to be the 20th, but if it's half as good as last year plus the added excitement of World Cup, we'll need the second week to recover!! :)

CathB 23-05-2014 22:28

Are they doing the disco again this year..not that I want to go..hoping to avoid it..just hope if they do then its not on the beach this year :(

triplets 28-05-2014 20:52

oh no what a shame we too arrive on the 15th :(

Thank you Sparky - looks as packed a programme as last year. Can't wait now :D

Marina 02-07-2014 17:25

Can anyone explain to me the significance of the procession out to sea and the appearance of the Devils later on in the evening? I thoroughly enjoyed it the other year but had no idea what it was!

star81 04-07-2014 08:57

Do they still do the trucks that throw the sweets out at the children ? I seem to remember this being done during this week ?

That is San Cristobel (spelling) the patron saint of lorry drivers and it usually is on the Saturday before La Verge del Carmen, they drive around the Port blasting their horns and throwing sweets out to the children :D.
