From the first read-through to th first night with a Gala Reception, the Bulletin has covered the NOMADS production of The Snow Queen. The opening night with reception was on Wednesday. Was all the hard work worth it? Oh yes it was!
The NOMADS production of The Snow Queen turned a very ordinary Wednesday evening into something magical.
With some wonderfully simple, yet professional looking sets, the stage in the auditorium at The Club Pollenca was transformed into a series of convincing wintery scenes. The effects were simple but convincing, the costumes wonderful and audience were treated to some excellent live music, singing and dancing.
A pantomime usually manages to produce all the old gags and riddles, and The Snow Queen did this and more. There were also lots of opportunities for audience participation, which on occasions had members of the audience on their feet responding to the cast. There were some outstandingly good performances, but this was a genuine team effort with actors, musicians and technical crew supporting each other, so it would be wrong, and take up a lot of space, to single any individual performances.
Some members of the audience really wanted to enter into the the atmosphere and even dressed-up for the occasion, cheering loudly for their favourite characters.
This magical evening saw the experienced NOMADS actors working alongside some very young people with total success.
The evening was a delight. We were fortunate to experience an evening of real live entertainment, and when the two directors, Nickie Baylis and Nicki Liles came on stage at the end, the audience went wild. The two Nickies deserved every second of their standing ovation!
After the first night the NOMADS held a reception, with mince pies and mulled wine, for local people who had helped them achieve such a high level of performance, and once again NOMADS are forced to answer the question that such an exciting production poses, "What next NOMADS?"
