Went to bid farewell to John at the BFS today and had a nice chat with him. He told us that there was a gambling establishment going to open in the Port in the next couple of months. Not sure how I feel about this really but I'm sure anyone owning one of the Taylor Wimpey apartments won't be too happy as it's directly below them. I saw the building in the summer and thought it was a children's indoor play centre...how wrong was I
Time will tell what it's like, but I'm not sure it looks exactly salubrious or is appropriate for PP. |
Oh my goodness, i don't think this is appropriate for PP :(.
|
Agree with Sparky don't think it's right for PP. Don't know what the gaming laws are, opening times/ closing times etc but it may cause trouble for the residents with unsavoury people hanging around. As Debz says will wait and see.
|
I'm not disagreeing with anybody, but, hopefully it's not what we think - I would not have thought, though, that there is any chance at all that a quick survey of the residents and visitors to PP would have led anyone to the conclusion that such an establishment could possibly be successful. That is, PP does not have nor attract that sort of punter. I hope!!!!!!

Where abouts are the apartments, down the hill from the Flora apartments opposite where TYM used to be, I think we need to be careful in comments regarding the people who go to casinos, they are very popular in the UK, so some of our members may enjoy visiting them! PP can be all things to all people.
|
Yes,you're quite correct. If anyone was offended by my last post, I apologize. What I did mean, without being derogatory, is that in general terms and for business reasons, I do not think that it would work in PP.
|
I don't think there's anything wrong with casinos at all or people who go to them. My post was pointing out there was actually going to be one and thinking it was in a strange place below new apartments. I certainly wouldn't be happy if I lived there as it will potentially make that part of town very noisy. Sws it is on the opposite corner to where TYM was.

I could be wrong but heard it will be an Amusement Arcade run by Russians?

Sorry for any offence caused I suppose I'm very insular here as we have no such establishments in Northern Ireland it's against the law. Still I'm not sure about it, and why are the Russians interested?

Time will tell but I am sure owners of property in the Taylor Wimpey Apartments might prefer other types of business to take up the vacant units on the ground floor of their properties. |
How do you know it's run by Russians?
It has no licence as yet and is not open. Rumours, rumours, rumours. Let's get the facts before we all start jumping to conclusions. |
I spoke to some other locals tonight and they said there will only be slot machines, no card games or roulette.
|
ssssssssss
|
sorry for last message trying to post a reply and laptop went crazy , or I did !
|
It sounds like its the sort of establishment that has been sprouting up all over Spain recently . I have noticed a few in other resorts . They are like amusement arcades , they have machines that you can play games on like roulette etc. and they also show live horse racing and other sporting events which you can bet on using these machines .
I might be wrong but I'm sure the last one I saw was either run or franchised by a major online gambling company. |
A bit like the one that was on the front then
|
I didn't know there used to be one in the port .
When did it close down ? |
I didnt know there was one either
|
There used to be 2 amusement( childrens ) arcades at one time....one i seem to remember was on the run of shops somewhere near Brisa Marina and the other somewhere between Cafe 1919 and Tapas y Punto
|
I remember the one near Cafe 1919 as well Cath but this new place is about ten times the size and certainly not a children's one. There is a sign saying Over 18 in the window. Anyone know if and when it's opening?

See my earlier post.

Passed by this morning and it's all very neatly done and possibly an improvement on some of the empty floors covered in builder's rubbish currently under Taylor Wimpey homes. Friends live there and their entrance to the apartments is flanked by this mess. The proposed business looks nothing like a c----o and every bit like a slot machine arcade. Whoever's financing it, I give it (perhaps cynically) very little time before it's closed and then we will be left with peeling window decals in an abandoned property. Though this is not my town or where I'm from, I do care about (and contribute to) the success of the resort and so the potential for yet another scruffy has-been business concerns me more than the intended purpose right now. If it's successful and well-run, then happy days ....... because nothing is more depressing than the alternative!! None of us can be happy about run down premises that used to be so alive like the gym, Matchpoint, Citrus, JK's, Bar Med and so many others dotted around. Every time something new, clean and vibrant opens, I hope they last! And I'm not judging the business within until its open!!

Anyone know if this has in fact opened, and if so what sort of gaming place it is?
