Question Hair braids

Hello,

We are lucky enough to be in PP right now. My 6 year old daughter is very keen to have her hair braided - there is a lady with a shop on the sea front near the Bahia that does it.

Has anyone's child had this done? Was it comfortable for them once done and did it come out OK afterwards?

Many thanks,

TT.

Hi TT,

My daughter had one of those single braids with beads put in when she was about 3 and the whole thing fell out, including the hair it was attached to, leaving a small bald patch!!
My hairdresser went mad saying that this braiding can put a strain on the roots of hair if it is pulled tight. However, if you mean the corn row type of braiding I shouldn't think this would put too much strain on. I just think it is difficult to keep it looking neat when you have to wash it as all the little short hairs start to poke out. Perhaps give it a go and if it looks too messy, just cut your losses and undo it!! Please let us know how it turns out!

Thanks for the reply Car - it was the corn rows we were thinking of as she is growing her fringe out and it's constantly in the way

Will keep you posted on the outcome

Remember to put suntan lotion on the exposed scalp beteen any plaiting as it burns really quickly!

Default hair braids

I am sorry but I can't recommend against having this done enough....not only is it very expensive, as a hairdresser I agree completely with the above post, the strain on a young scalp is tremendous, the sun and sea air weaken the hair anyway, all that jumping in and out of a pool/the sea, and its almost like a facelift the tightness imposed on the hair shaft when doing these styles. Sorry, and I do realise that people have to make a living but I don't think its worth the damage it can do....

I wouldn't recommend it ....... too much exposed scalp to burn , strain on roots and I don't even think it looks nice ............... do realise the last bit is just a personal view

Hi there TT

I have no experience of hair brading whatsoever but what I've read about it above would deter me from recommending it I can assure you.

One thing I do know, as I witnessed it first hand in PP near Los Pescadores last year, if you do decide to have it done agree the price up front and MAKE SURE the price includes the beads.

I witnessed this poor bloke have his daughter's hair done and the girl doing it then tried to charge him for the beads on top of the price quoted !!

Anyway, as a bloke and in my opinion for what it's worth, I think it's so naff and dated.
