Default Long term winter car rental

Hi there fellow forum users.

I'm going to be spending the winter in Mallorca, based in PP from September this year. I'm going to be doing a lot of hiking and I have considered whether it is feasible to get by with using public transport. This may get me around to a lot of areas for drop-offs, pick-ups from different locations but I think that I will soon exhaust my options... I was considering buying a motorbike, or a car, but I've had a quick look on the web at car rental for, say, a month or two. The search I did came up with "Atlas Choice" as the cheapest option with the rate for a "mini economy" car at around 110 euros per month.

At this rate there's no way I'm going to consider buying a vehicle, but it sounds too good to be true, although I realise there are likely to be a lot of rental cars doing nothing for the winter. Does anyone have any info about other companies that offer long term winter car rental?

Thanks in advance.

Steve.

At least you'll have no problem returning it with the "full to empty" policy they nearly all try to rip you off with !!

I'd say 110 euro's for their cheapest, smallest car at that time of the year may be right ?? Does sound cheapish though ?? Mind you, by the time you've paid the exhorbitant insurance excesses it may add up a bit !!

Hi, we used car rental for the winter period last year, on blocks of 2 months at a time, the rates were excellent, booked through car hire 3000, they scan the net and get the best deal for you, they were all with gold car, and as the hires were over the winter period we had upgraded, cars at the reduced prices, definately recommend car hire, the deals were excellent, around £250 per contract, for 3 drivers (our son is 23)

I've done some more research via the web. None of these companies have local pick-up/drop off options at this time of year, so the best location for me is Palma. These rates are based on 30 days car hire from the 6th November

Carhire3000: Ford Ka, pick-up/drop-off Palma, basic insurance. £366

Europcar: Fiat Panda, pick-up/drop-off Airport, basic insurance (€500 excess). £479

Economy Car Rentals: Fork Ka, pick-up/drop-off Palma, basic insurance (zero excess). £248

AtlasChoice: Renault Clio, pick-up/drop-off Palma, basic insurance (€500 excess). £101!!!

I'm slightly confused with AtlasChoice's website as at one point it states that the basic insurance excess is €2000, however to upgrade, to presumably zero excess, costs an additional £3.52 per day, which doesn't sound too bad until you consider it will double the cost of the car hire... It seems strange that the cheapest company's rate for winter rental is a lot less than half that of their cheapest rival. There doesn't appear to be any hidden extras, I've been right through the booking process on the website to the point where credit card details are required to secure the booking, and at this stage I only have to pay a £28 deposit! They have a full/empty policy and the fuel is paid for at pick-up, no worries! I'm tempted to make a booking but still slightly sceptical...
