Default Returning car full of petrol? Which companies?

Hi,

New to the forum and looking for advice re petrol costs when hiring.
It's appears that most companies charge up front and you have to return the car empty. This seems quite costly.
Does anyone know of any companies who allow you to return the car full?

Any other car tips would be great too.
We are travelling in June for 10 nights in Pollensa.

Thanks.

Default Car hire companies

Sixt also hire out their cars on a full to full basis.
Their cars are clean, have low mileage and in good condition and also have all the requisite safety equipment in them (hi-viz jackets and warning triangles) but they are generally a bit dearer in the main season.

Basically, all of the "Blue Chip" international rental companies, Europcar, Avis, Hertz etc all operate on a "full to full" basis.

Its worth being clear that you do need to pay for a tank, or at least have a reserve made on your credit card to the value of the fuel. The tank will then be checked by one of their operatives when you return it to the airport - As long as it is full, no charge or a credit is made.

The cars that they offer, tend to also be brand-new, so expect to pay a small premium.

A good local operator is Vanrell. They have an office in the Port, and their main base is in Alcudia. They deliver to the airport (meeting you in the carpark opposite arrivals) and you simply replace the fuel that is provided.

Some of the cars are not quite as well presented (most of the smaller cars have their wheeltrims removed) but the cars are less than 2 years old and they are well-priced.

I know that Villaparade use them, and have done for certainly the last few years.

Of the "blue chip" companies, I've used both Avis and Hertz on a "full/full" basis and they have been excellent. In June Hertz checked the car over and removed the credit card holding transaction while I watched and gave written confirmation - very reassuring.
