Resorthoppa taken over by Ryanair??????
Just booked Resorthoppa for upcoming visit to PP. They are offering a 'speedy' shuttle transfer with maximum of 4 drop offs for 'only' £12 pp above standard rate.(£28 v £16 pp) As the advertised travelling times are 1hr20mins standard and 1hr10 on the speedy bus, I declined the offer.
Imagine my surprise when I got to checkout and was stuffed with the choice of a £3 surcharge for using a credit card, or £1 charge for using a visa debit card. very Ryanairesque!
Thats a £3 charge on a £30 bill.
Just had a weekend away in Harrogate (thank you Mr Tesco rewards) and the hotel and restraunts quite happy to be paid with plastic with no surcharge, even though taking payment manually would 'cost' more than a fully electronic transaction.
As it is reported in the press that a card transaction costs the supplier only 20p, the balance of the surcharges must be being used to fund the Resorthoppa promotional discounts.
What really got up my nose was having to go through the whole booking palaver before the surcharge was slipped in on the last page.
Just hope the queues will have subsided by June. When we arrived on a Monday morning in mid April, the resort hoppa kiosk was closed and the extremely long, slow moving, queue was lining up at the Vajaes(?) kiosk.
Rant over.. 23 days to go

Where we go in Rhodes it is as cheap to hire a car for a week as it is for taxi transfers shame its not the same in Majorca

Although the press never tell the full story
A debit card fee may be on be about 20p if a supplier has a good deal with their merchant bank, payments by credit card are a percentage of the transaction value.
This can be very small percentage for a big company with lots of turnover but smaller companies cant negotiate the best deals as they dont have large enough turnover, the percentage fee is often around 3% or more + a monthly fee for having the service.
On one of my websites that sells a product for £1000.00 the fee we are charged is:
21.50 pence if a customer pays on debit card
£13.10 if they pay on a visa credit card
£13.50 if they pay with mastecard credit card.
£24.36 if they use paypal at the checkout !
(We dont have any surcharges for anything )
Just shows that the press talk nonsense when they say 20p, it not the full and honest story

Would be better if debit cards are free and maybe 2% for credit cards, not 10%, no wonder you dont like it
If the debit card option was free everyone would pay on a debit card which is better for everyone.

I have used "Majorca airport transfers" several times ,they are not cheap at 80 euros each way,but they meet you at the arrival hall (they hold up a card with your name on it),escort you to their desk just yards away, confirm your booking, check your destination address and explain the payment procedure (you pay both ways to the first driver). You are in your taxi and away in minutes.I have always found the cars in good condition and the drivers polite and helpful.Have heard mixed reviews of resort hopper, good and bad ,the last thing I want is when I arrive is to get transported all over the place before I reach my destination. In my view the extra cost of the taxi is well worth it.

We used RH a fortnight ago and had no problem, it was fine, certainly no worse than any tour companies transfers, indeed a lot better. I wouldn't panic and cancel if i were you, especially if there are only 2 of you, taxis are far too expensive, in many cases dearer than the actual air-fare.

Thanks for 'the other side of the story', so to speak. The charges for a creditcard transaction are almost eyewatering, particularly as the banks will, in many cases, also be collecting interest and charges on the customers side of the transaction
How did they manage to make themselves bankrupt and require a bail out?
My annoyance about the supplier (not just Resorthoppa) not being clear at the beginning of the transaction that there was a charge, remains.
Jet2 were guilty of this - advertising a welcome change to 'the price you see is the price you pay', then inserting a fuel surcharge (along with the charge for paying) at the end of the checkout process.
Not to worry - now only 22 days to PP!
