Default Car Hire-half tank ?

We normally use Goldcar who provide a full tank of fuel which is fine for when we visit for 2 weeks. However we have booked for a short visit next year so require a car hire firm that wont charge for a full tank.Does anyone have any ideas (must be onsite )

Thanks
Charlotte

Default Car Hire - half tank

Charlotte,

We used Sixt this year. They're on-site and we got upgraded to a brand new car (had 200km on the clock).

You receive the car with a full tank and return it with a full tank so you pay for what you use. I guess it's worth checking the price against what you would pay with Goldcar.

Cheers

Charlotte,

In the past when I have hired from Goldstar for a short period I have been able to return the car with a full tank.

Charlotte

Seeing as you're not visiting till next year, I'd advise against making any early decision about which company to use.

Looking back at threads, it seems clear that the companies are changing their policy all the time - both about fuel and whether they are on-site. If you take the plunge too early you may still find that you've ended up with both a full tank deal and be picking up off-airport.

Hi Charlotte,
I agree with Harters, leave it poss until start of 2009. However, I do have some other advice.
Doyouspain are very reasonable (but use some companies that have full to empty policy) BUT if they say special offer on some models it usually is with Record who operate a return car with same amount of fuel as when you took it - it is all recorded properly - so you only pay for the fuel that you use. You can check out Record directly but they are generally a bit more than going through Doyouspain.

Might be worth trying DYS & in the booking process in the request/comments box state that you want an on site company that you will only pay for the fuel you use. Remember not to pay up front (pay at pick up option) & you then have the option to change to another company without losing out if the deal they come up with doesn't suit.

Hope this helps

Anyone know of a car hire company that operates from the airport who offer a collect full return full fuel policy without the usual Gold car style rip offs, I am coming for a week in June 2011.

I emailed Carjet about this last week, as we are only out for a week & won't use anything like a full tank, for which we'll probably be charged €100. They said that all their on-airport rental companies are full/empty (have ended up with Goldcar last few years), so I'm watching this with interest too.

Last year we used Europcar and it was full/full and I have booked with Avis for this year and the same applies on my booking voucher it says that if you return the car full we will refund fuel charge.

Yep, Europcar for us every time. Full/full and have an office in PP as well if any problems - which there never have been. Touch wood!

Just organised a 4 night visit PP next month. Resorthoppa quoting30 euros. Europcar quoting a panda for 223 euros, and record quoting 47euros for a smart car with a 33 litre tank on a full/empty basis.
So if you see our little car in the port week commencing 11th, give us a wave - but don't expect a lift!!
