Default PP taxi rank.

Posted by the council on FB.

Quote:
The works of the stop of taxis in Port de Pollença have started, which consists of the installation of metal and wood pergoles that will cover the parking area, with a capacity of 17 cars, the construction of a small building for a bathroom and a storage room and the placement of seats for the others users, also covered with another pergola. A performance that will definately improve the taxi service.
Until the completion of the works the stop has moved to the same Rubén Darío street, but a little further.

All well and good, but possibly a waste of money if there are no taxis to use it!

Strange, the busier the day, market day, the fewer taxis there are!

It discourages any one of a certain age staying outside the town centre from visiting of an evening. The walk back to Llenaire along the promenade can be tiring after an evening meal etc. especially the etc.
It was much better when the buses ran along the coast from the marina. The lack of taxis of an evening must affect the trade.

The season hasn`t started yet, i think we need to wait and see. Many drivers do other jobs in the winter.

Same old..same old. Not impressed with new rank etc.

During our two week stay got taxi to and from port about 8/10 times. No problem getting reception at Hobby Club to order one on "new" computerised system. Did not have to wait for more that 10 minutes. Usual drop off at marina.
Problems getting back. The new rank, did it really take 2 years to build? , is a mess. The rank appears to be in 2 sections. One in the road next to the church with covered shelter and one on what was always public parking spaces on the road off to the right.
On each of the evenings never more than one taxi on the first site. Each time the driver directed us to the other site which seemed to have about 6 taxis parked there and on the road opposite. There was no way to tell which was the first available one. The drivers just standing around chatting.
I ended up most nights standing on the corner shouting " numero uno please". We were then directed to move down the rank tapping on drivers windows. Once we were directed to cross the road to a taxi parked down the road. We refused and stood our ground until it reversed back to us. One way street?

It appears that majority of the young drivers are not local as they did not know the route back to Hotel but had to rely on satnav! This I find bad practice as I would prefer the driver to keep their eyes on the road. I do not live local but I think that even I could find my way without satnav and with my eyes closed.
Do the drivers not have to demonstrate local route " knowledge" before they get a license as in U.K. Thinking of doing a few shifts of an evening during my next visit.

May be improved by next trip in September!!

I don't know if I have just been lucky but since using the Mallorcab app we have had no problems either in terms of availability or speed of response. I never used the rank but call either from my house or where I am visiting. Last Sunday afternoon it took less than two minutes for a taxi to arrive at Stay restaurant.

Also used the Mallorcab app in early May

Very easy to use and very efficient - taxis arrived within minutes.

Hopefully will have the same experience in June/July

I think you may be getting me mixed up with David Millar the famous scottish cyclist.
Perhaps in my younger days.

Sounds like the drivers rather hang around somewhere else or in a less than organised manner at the taxi rank and are prepared to pay a cut to the taxi app for their convenience.

@miller
Hope you'll have more luck in September.
