Default Beware Clickrent car rental

This is to warn anyone thinking of dealing with this rental company. We have used for many years including their predecessors.

Today we have been informed that 1250 euros has been taken from our bank account for the replacement of a clutch. The clutch started to slip on the way to return to Palma airport of which I informed them by email from the airport. I had my 5 month old grandson and 91 year old disabled mother in the car which could have been disastrous had we actually broken down.

I bought their ‘relax’ fully comp insurance. They say I am liable for the cost and not insured. The car was rented for just 10 days but had limited use.

My bank have paid the amount to clickrent. The card used was my bank visa and not my credit card. My bank will not involve themselves stating it is for me to sort out with the rental company.

How can I be responsible for a clutch? I would suggest they are liable for putting us in danger by supplying a car not fit for purpose. Not sure what to do about this but intend to fight. I had their full comp "relax' insurance too!

That is just reprehensible! Especially as you taken out their full insurance. The clutch must have been faulty from the start of the hire - and I always understood that you are only liable for damage etc to the car - how can you 'damage' a clutch? And they can tell from the mileage how little the car was used. It just sounds like another car hire scam to get money from people who hire cars in good faith.

I read last week that someone had been charged a large sum for a missing parcel shelf and their inusrance had refused to pay as they classed it as 'theft'. Like who checks for parcel shelves when they pick up a car?

Really hope you can sort this out. I've not heard of this company but thanks for warning people to avoid at all costs.
