Default Car Hire for 20 Year Old

My daughter, as the title implies, is 20 years old and coming to our place in PP with a couple of her mates in August. She's had a clean licence for 3 years.

Any advice on best place to get car hire for someone her age.

Thanks

Chris

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure you'll find most hire companies require drivers to be aged 21 and over? You may struggle. Even if you do find a company I bet the insurance will be pretty hire.

This is from me, and don't take it personally, but I'd question whether or not it's a good idea. What does she need it for? If it's just transport to and from the airport or maybe into Pollensa or Alcudia or other local trips then I'd use taxis. Split between 3 they're no money and no worries. They can all have a drink and not worry about damage to the car etc.

Just a thought.

Nick,

Yea thanks. You may be right.

We're up at the top of Gotmar so even a trip to the Euroski is a fair old walk for them.

I'll have a search and see what comes up.

Hi Chris

If you're in one of those nice houses in Celgotmar that's one heck of a steep and windy hill getting in and out of there plus is she experienced at driving on the "wrong side of the road"? It sounds as though they'll be spending a lot of time in the property then? They could walk into town and get shopping etc and taxi back but then thinking about it do 20 year olds walk anywhere?!

You may have problem in her renting but you may get away with you renting and her extra driver ask is best bet.

Thanks for your help guys, i tried a number of places and to my surprise it was AVIS who would do it.

Of course, they extracted their pound of flesh, mid-August and 20 years old!!!!

But with 5 girls it would have been a not dissimilar price for the trip across the Island plus a few taxis when here.

Fair point with the cost divided by 5, makes it reasonable and of course convenient having the use of the car.

It does look risky with 5 young people in the same car on the wrong side of the road, all part of life's experience and learning curve I guess.

The worry would be looking the wrong way when pulling out of a junction and getting hit in the side. We have all done it once and usually get away with it

When I was 20 the only chance of a foreign holiday was a Thomson package holiday, herded on arrival like cattle onto coaches and queueing for just about everything.

Or a club 18-30 to Ibiza, which was never as good as people made it out to be.

And then some years later we had the internet, Easyjet, Owners Direct and discovered Pollensa
Who needs hotels and travel agents

The younger generation today have never had it so good with travel and the ease of booking everything online

They are 20, old enough to vote and old enough to fight for Queen and country, who, like Margaret Thatcher, are both females, God bless em.
