Car hire insurance query.

Hi this is the time of year when we are confronted with the inevitable "Do you want to take out this extra insurance for peace of mind"? We go with Centauro...seem nice enough.. but do we rally need "extra"?...last year we just paid so we did have peace of mind but ....is it a rip off? thanks Ian

Question is can you afford not to take it ? Are you financially fixed that you can afford the excess circa 600 Euro or even more (depending on car co and size of vehicle ) being blocked on your credit card.If you dont take the insurance and have a stand alone policy can you afford to wait for the possible reimbursement subject to t and c of the policy but you still carrying the charge on your cc.

Or return the car having taken their insurance at the end of the holiday without the inspection hassle and them trying to nickel and dime you ?

How do you value peace of mind ?

You could consider taking separate insurance to cover excess, wheels, tyres, underbody, glass etc.

I use www.insurance4carhire. The cover stacks up very well and, whilst I've never personally claimed (happily) there have been a number of posts over the years here from people who have, and have been very impressed with the service.

The more you go away, the better value it is. I probably hire cars abroad for about six weeks a year, so that makes it especially good value.

I hope that this helps. By the way, I'm an insurance broker by profession, so I have read the policy wording in detail!!:)

Suggest you check this thread. As you will read, I had a very positive experience when there was slight damage to the hire car. Paid for the damage on the credit card and insurance4carhire paid out the claim before the creditcard bill arrived. I have taken their insurance ever since (happily, without making a further claim)

And on the plus side Insurance4carhire advertise on here, so we should support them if possible.
