The Return, Victoria Hislop.

The Return

This is very good reading, a mix of fact and fiction, and opened my eyes to what I had never known about, the horrors of the Spanish Civil War.

I have all 3 VC`s books, and even though they are all the same format , they are very interesting and informative.

The Island , I really liked, because I`ve been to Crete about 5 times and to Spinalonga a couple of times, it really brings home how the poor people who were sent there must have lived , and what it meant for the families they left behind.

I read the third book, The Thread, whilst in Turkey this summer. The Turkish/Greek population exchange was brought to my attention having read "Birds without wings". by Louis de Berniere (of Captain Correlli fame). Must have been so traumatic for all the families involved. I love historic novels (with a love story of course) Who's gonna write one about PP?

There is also Mishap in Majorca - see Holiday Reading on Majorca but it isn't really a historical novel. It's a very funny detective story. There are also the books by Roderic Jeffries - Murder mysteries featuring Inspector Alvarez based in Pollensa town. All availble from Amazon & several now for Kindle.

Did you know that Roderic Jeffries lives in La Font.
