Smile Next Summer's reading material

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a great Christmas and have a very happy and prosperous New Year. Great weather here, eh? Roll on summer 2010.
I was just looking at some likely reading material for our hot July/August holiday in PP and was hoping for some recommendations. Has anyone read any Majorca-based books by Anna Nicholas? Goats From a Small Island, Cat on a Hot Tiled Roof or A Lizard in My Luggage? Or Selina Scott's A Long Walk in the Hills? (The Tramuntana Hills.) Is there anything better than reading a good novel on a balcony over-looking the Pine Walk beach on a hot summer's day followed by a lovely meal in the evening? Bliss.

Only 183 days to go!!

Tony

Hi Tony - the Anna Nicholas books are great. They are set around the Andrax/Calvia area and are a great insight as to what it is like being a non-national trying to integrate into the community. Also the books by Peter Kerr e.g. snowball orange, etc are on a similar vein.

Happy New Year

GG

I read Lizard in My Luggage and have to confess I didn't enjoy it, but I think I'm in the minority on that! Maybe I'd read one too many books about people moving abroad, finding a run-down house to develop and the "funny" things that happen to them.

I did, however, enjoy the Peter Kerr books - they were very good and genuinely funny to read.
