Beware of submerged rocks when swimming

Hi
PP is a lovely beach, great for swimming but do be careful of the sporadic submerged rocks, especially where the water gets a bit deeper. I saw a couple of people limping on the beach in our first few days and wondered why? Then I found out - I hit a rock doing a breast stroke kick in quite deep water when I thought I was well clear of the bottom. J

TAKE CARE - but please get out there and explore!

Thanks Jim & Becky, how right you are, the PP beaches are gorgeous indeed - just back home after our 7th visit and already planning the next! - but for the keen swimmer it is worth remembering all of those rocks. For the past 5 years I have spent much of the holiday swimming out from the area around and about the lifeguard tower on the Pine Walk. I generally like to swim out to the red marker then along towards Daina, and anywhere/everywhere inbetween! I have over the years accumulated quite a collection of scars from scraped and sliced fingers, knees and toes, (and near misses with chest and tummy!!) from brief and unexpected encounters with both big boulders and smaller stones underwater, in some cases really quite far out from the shore where you don't expect it.

Do take care but DO get out there - it's hard to beat swimming right out and having a float around while savouring the scenery (the view of the landscape from the sea is breathtaking), and if you are lucky you can hang out with the 'corb mari', a true highlight. Until this year I had only ever seen and bobbed about in the sea with one solitary cormorant and so was pretty surprised and delighted to be able to swim out and watch 3 of them chilling out on 2 of the moored boats. Definitely worth the odd cut and graze, but please be careful out there! :)

Yes I agree with both the above posts. My husband cut his foot quite badly on the rocks while swimming in the sea in PP. I would recommend wearing aqua shoes. Also beware of glass. One day we went to Formentor beach and my little boy ran out of the sea crying and his foot was bleeding. We discovered a broken wine glass just near the shore line where he had been playing. The First Aid people were great and cleaned and bandaged his foot. After both of these experiences I would never let him go in the sea again without aqua shoes. I would strongly recommend these for anyone with children.
