Default On the beach

Astonished this morning on our walk down the PineWalk into town to see a veritable forrest of poles placed in the beach. Looks like they are there to support the umbrellas. Don't recall this many on this section of beach last year. The view from Cappuchino will be somewhat impaired when the tops are fitted. When you add the sun beds I doubt there will be room for the kids to play either. I counted one group of 28 adjacent to Hotel Bahia!

I think from what I've seen/read the Spanish government are set for an "invasion" of holidaymakers this year?

The Germans now have a lot more money to spend with their economy on a mini boom, Brits are probably fed up with terrible weather and the current economic climate so want a holiday and the added factor that the current unrest in Egypt and other North African countries is putting tourists off visiting there.

I expect to see a MAJOR increase in tourists to PP this summer. Let's all hope so anyway.

I agree that there do seem to be a few more in some places but that part of the beach is usually very busy. There is space at the front and between sections for playing. Lets just be grateful that they are getting on with it this year.

Good point lollipop. Last year we were worried that there would no umbrellas all summer! Lets just hope there is so much sun that we will be grateful for all the shade!

There are piles of umbrella poles, just over the sea-wall, all the way from Llenaire to the Port.
I guess that this week will be the week of the umbrellas!

Cheers!

Or just a glut of poles! I love seeing the newly made ones going up, but money may be so short that they just use the old ones - who cares, I just want to be there - roll on tomorrow!!!

Thank goodness they are better organised this year. Mind you, in the current economic climate they need to be to start raking in some money.

I hope the unfinished look of the square won't detract from evereything. Or will it be finished in time ?!

Any news on what it will cost for a couple of lounges and an umbrella this year?

Adios

Was in PP for the first time in the first two weeks of April. Weather was great and was staying in Llenaire area. Must admit to being surprised at how "out of season" everything felt. We ended up going to the Pinewalk and the beach outside Little Italy mainly and had a great time but was a little dismayed at the state of the beach - my husband stood on some glass and we gave another little girl a plaster on another day who had badly gashed her foot - we always went on a glass hunt thereafter and removed lots of glass and then had a problem of finding a bin to dispose of it. Also had to dodge quite a bit of dog muck on the pavement and beach. Was this because we were out of season - is there more of a clean up campaign when more tourists arrive? We had a lovely time on our hols and once kids were set up on the beach wiled away many an hour pleasantly. Of course we also had to put up with the fact that the square was a building site and noisy but there was so much to see outside of Puerto Pollensa (Pollensa itself and Arta were our favourites) that we were just thankful we had a hire car! We'll definitely come back but perhaps slightly later in the season.
