On the beach 2024
Arrived in the Port on Friday and glad to see that most bars and restaurants are opening up ready for the start of the season. However also notice that all three pop up beach bars are not in situ and that there are no beds or umbrellas on the beach. Presumably the local council are up to their usual tricks and trying to drive good money spending tourists elsewhere???

Normally the windbreaks are not removed until mid April and beach brollies etc put up around the same time or later depending on the ‘concessions’ given out by the council. The beach bars appear about the same time as well when the weather is constistently better. Everything is open now as Easter this year is very early and I’m sure there’ll be an influx of people next week when the summer schedules start for the flights and because of Easter but quiet at the moment and most restaurants fairly empty -lots of cyclists though!

I did just post this on another thread but thought it was worth asking here too..
My Mum and Dad are out there currently and have been told by a girl they know working in one of the bars that there won't be any beach bars this year or beds? This doesn't feel like it can be true and maybe my Dad misunderstood be it would be interesting to know if anyone else has heard this at all?

I have to say theres no way there wouldn't be any beds or parasols on the beach and the beach bars have not made any comments on social media about not being reinstated, but you never know for sure! Some of the things that go on are very odd!

Was about to post almost the same. It seems inconcievable to a
imagine they’d be no sunbeds or parasols but the Costas have very strange ideas sometimes!!

We’ve been in touch with Embat and they say that the council haven’t issued any of the permits for beach concessions. Not sure whether this would apply to beds and brollies too, although agree with others - that would seem bonkers even by their standards!

Beginning of May ...
Had an e-mail reply from the PP tourist office and it says '...work is underway, so that beds and umbrellas will probably be installed on the beach at the beginning of May.'

Authorisation now comes from the Balearic government, not the Costas Authority
...
The town hall doesn't yet have authorisation from the coasts directorate to tender the services - sun loungers, parasols, bars. The directorate, which comes under the Balearic government since the transfer of powers from the state Costas Authority, has added certain requirements to the original application. ...
Mayor Martí March responded on Wednesday, saying that the application and the new documentation needed by the directorate were supplied on time, although he admitted that this could have been done sooner.
...
"We will issue the tender conditionally, informing the company that the contract depends on this authorisation." March added that he is in constant contact with the directorate and that he expects to obtain authorisation shortly. "They have until May, although they may give it to us in mid-April."

Great news Sparky.
But could you just clarify for me please:-
1. Does that include the brollies and sunbeds.
2, Does that also include any beach bars (chiringuitos).
3, Does that include the licences for the bar/restaurants in front of the
likes of Sis Pins, The Miramar, and Capri - not sure if this is the same
licensing process as the others, so I may be way off track here.

Tangoman -I saw a series of photos on a Facebook site on Sunday which showed tables/chairs/sunbeds etc out at Sis Pins/ Capri and even Dakota. I messaged the person posting them to make sure they were not old and was assured that had been taken the previous afternoon.

So, we are into May and still no sign of beds, brollies or beach bars!! I appreciate Easter was early this year (did no one tell the Town Council) but this is not only a bad advert for PP but how can those who apply for these concessions plan for what is already a short season!! The Llenaire end of town has already, at least for this season, lost the Galeon and Siurell if we lose La Roca as well this end of town will certainly be a poor relation. Having started this thread I am really struggling to see why with the season now in full swing these facilities are still lacking!!??

Unfortunately, as the past has shown, anything to do with licence granting or renewal, has always dragged on.
With the procedure changing and the authorisation now coming from the local government, it's no surprise, that there are delays.
And that's only for approval for the proposal of the tenders.
There's probably legal time frames to follow for those tenders, so I'd say, it'll drag on for a bit longer.

Bad news .
Quote:
Statement from the Pollença City Council about the contract of transfer to third parties of the exploitation of the demand authorization, for the exploitation of seasonal services on the coast for the fiscal year 2024-2027
i️ Last Monday, 6 May 2024, the deadline for the submission of applications to exploit, with authorization on demand, the seasonal services on the coast, subject to authorization from the General Directorate of Coasts of the Ministry of the Sea and the Cycle of the Water.
i️ Of the 44 lots that have been offered, 12 for beaches and 32 for terraces, 37 bidders have been presented, of which 9 for beaches and 28 for terraces.
Of the lots corresponding to the beaches, they have presented to exploit the beaches of Formentor, the Xibius and the sailing school. But the lots of Albercuix beaches, Tamarells and Cala Sant Vicenç and boats without engines have been deserted.
i️ Once the lots that have not received any offers are officially deserted, the Pollença City Council will bid them again, urgently, so that they can enjoy the beach service as soon as possible.
