Water Clarity 2020
Has anyone noticed a drop in the clarity of the sea to the left of the port toward the Illa D’or, in previous years it’s had good visibility as far as the yellow swimming area bouys, but this year were finding it very cloudy, and snorkelling is waste of time. Our rental landlord who’s lived here all his life thinks it’s a combination of the new breakwater addition where the large yachts tie up and in increase in the number of boats at anchor, which he thinks is due to an increase in marina berthing charges. The clarity of the water has always been a big draw for us to PP, but if its going to be like this it could change our plans for future holidays, we’ve been over to the opposite side of the day the last couple of days and the water clarity is amazing.

I have swam off Albercuix beach most days since we were permitted to during Phase 2. I had never seen the water so clear in 25 years of visiting the port and in addition it was teeming with fish. I don't normally snorkel but it was a great experience.
But it does seem to have got much cloudier in last week or so. I put this down to the increased number of boats moored in the bay and more people on the beach. |
Beach cleaning could possibly also cause it .

Wish they'd cleaned the beach opposite Joker Bar today. I had to scoop up 3 lots of doggie poop this morning before I could sit down :(

They are also doing work on the drains along from Little Italy so that may have an impact on water clarity

I kayaked out to the Lighthouse a few times and moored up in the old boathouse to the left of it and swam around there. The water is so clear, its absolutely stunning!
