On the beach 2020.
At the moment some of the beach looks more like a boat park and the rest is covered in debris washed up by "Gloria". There is an awful lot of work to do .

Here is a translation of a report in the UH :-
Quote:
Pollença starts a pollution shock plan after the passing of the 'Gloria' storm
The mayor of Pollença , Tomeu Cifre Ochogavía, informed on Wednesday that the company Adalmo has presented a plan to start decontamination work after the passage of the storm 'Gloria', which left about twenty boats stranded on the beach of Port de Pollença
Cifre ensures that it is not a municipal competition but Costas, so the City Council does not authorize but informs in favor of decontamination work and will not assume its cost. "The owners will pay for it through insurance, if they have them," Cifre said.
"Passivity"
The mayor criticizes the "passivity" of other administrations, Costas, but also the Ministry of Environment to resume normalcy in the area. Thus, warns that the sand that dragged the storm has completely blocked the channel of the Gola and "if Medi Ambient does not act the fish will die."
Smaller boats, which lack registration, have already been labeled as waste and the Town Hall will take them and treat them as such if their owners do not remove them before.

Any news of the beach contract?
Just wondering if anyone knows if the beach contract for 2020 has been awarded yet?
Whilst in PP a week ago the beaches looked like they need an enormous amount of work after the storm to get them ready for the new season - which starts fairly soon!
We noticed the huge amount of work that had been done in Alcudia with the seaweed scraped up into big piles and the sand all levelled ready to be topped up whilst nothing seems to have started in PP.

Yes, the big tractors were out cleaning the beach near the Illa D'Or Hotel yesterday.
A couple of workmen also came along and mended a pot hole in the Pine Walk near Little Italy Restaurant too.

The beach contract was awarded for 4 years so no need to award this year. With reference to the beach there have been piles of seaweed which were removed a week or so ago. We have still had some quite high winds so am sure they are biding their time. There will now be a delayed start to the season because of the virus.

Nice to see the windbreakers removed and the beach tidied up. Maybe we should have a sweepstake for the first day people are allowed to sunbathe on it?

Here is a google translation from a post on the Som Pollensa fb page :-

By now, the beaches and all the services associated with it - hammocks, xibius or terraces - are paralyzed. It is with this scenario that Pollença City Council is facing two important problems, according to Mayor Tomeu Cifre, who also commented on Ràdio Pollença.
On the one hand, they find that swimming in the sea is forbidden, so they have currently planted the red flag and there are no lifeguards. However, when swimming is allowed again, the municipal institution will be forced to put this surveillance service on again. But the reality will be very different from the experiences of previous years. For this reason, "the idea is that if the beach goes from a high risk for many people to a medium risk for little, it will not take so many lifeguards," argues Cifre. He also commented on municipal radio that in order to make a good decision, they will have to wait and see how many people will be able to attend. It will be at this point that they will be able to calculate the ratio of lifeguards that will really be needed.
And on the other hand, from the City Council are that the demarcation of Coasts has not given them permission to operate the beaches, "authorization that ended last year." Specify that they last four years. It is also aggravating that the locals have nothing clear about what will be allowed and what will not, as well as the tourist season being so uncertain. Therefore, they are "deadlocked." Cifre explains that the municipal institution does not have much chance of exploiting these services on the beaches. "We do not see the material possibility of taking out a competition with a fee that they will have to pay without knowing if they will be able to recover it or not," says Tomeu Cifre.
There is the possibility of not putting these services out to tender
To all this, Tomeu Cifre adds that they are considering the possibility that in 2020 no service will be put out to tender and everything will be postponed. In addition, if anyone is interested in exploiting them, they will need to contact Costes directly and come to an agreement with them.

There are now red flags on the beaches which obviously means nobody can go into the sea .
