My friend got a nasty sting swimming at cala vincente and another friend got one swimming at the port. Jelly fish are pretty common in the cala, so be vigilant there. Usually not a problem at the port.

Spoke too soon, 2 stings in 2 days swimming at the port . Thankfully nothing serious. But just be careful.

This from the MDB:-

JELLYFISH WARNING
Palma.—Scientists at the global institute for oceanic studies OCEANA have warned that the high temperatures and a change in marine currents are going to lead to a jellyfish invasion of Balearic waters at the end of this month.

Top tip - jelly fish stings can be treated with vinegar, unless your allergic
to it. Just wash some over the sting area,I always carry some on my
boat for an instant remedy when at sea.
Turtles should be introduced to gobble the little blighters up !

I suppose one could always have a turtle on a lead for those little emergencies.
On reflection ,ones day may seem a little slow unless you fixed a wee motor on its shell to speed its legs up?

Just a thought.

Have heard there is a major problem today in Cala San Vicente, the lifeguards are only allowing people in the sea if they are wearing wetsuits .

The trouble with you Cumberland is you have no sense of humor.

My son has still got jellyfish scars from the Boquer valley last year.

My elder daughter still has the scars from being stung by one trapped / caught on a rope mooring the buoys showing the lane for the pedalos at Tamarells. She was 5 or so. Now 23. So don't expect them to fade quickly.

I was on the Pine Walk yesterday, by the villa on the dogleg.

A lady got out of the sea crying - I think that she had been stung.

That is BAD news, I spend half my holiday swimming out from the Pine Walk. Maybe she had just cut herself on one of the rocks (or been attacked by a hungry cormorant?!?)

You may well be right - The sand becomes very thin, and is replaced mainly be stones and rocks at that very end of the beach. She could have stood on something, but whatever it was made her leave the sea and beach to stand on the pavement in tears.

As she was with a friend, and wearing quite a skimpy bikini, I didn't like to look too closely for fear of being accused of being an old perv! (Guilty, m'lud)
