Default L'Auborada - Pollensa Square

L'Auborada is in a great position at the top of the beautiful main square in Pollensa, right next to the Cafe Espanyol.

Again, it is a restaurant we have often thought about trying so tonight was the night!

The children were too busy playing to take much notice of the menu but hubby and I sat and relaxed and chose mussels in a marinera sauce (me) and roasted vegetables and goats cheese (hubby) for starters.

My mussels were delicious but hubby said his veg was a bit greasy.

Our main courses of chicken stuffed with blue cheese and aubergines (me) and suckling pig (hubby) were well-cooked and served with vegetables. I chose a Mallorcan red - Manto Negro 2003 - to go with the meal which was a bit tannic and tasted of cherries, but went well with our choices.

The staff were slightly hit and miss, in a funny sort of way, almost like a comedy duo that never quite got their act together!

For such a great position in the square, the restaurant was pretty quiet whilst the others at the bottom of the square were very, very busy.

With the children I indulged in a dessert of chocolate and nut gateau and the bill came to 67 euros.

:b I've never been to L'Auborada but reading this after a long hard day at work and commute to and from London is making me very jealous!!!

The only two restaurants in the 'old town' that I have tried (and return to) are Clivia and La Fonda... both of which I would recommend.

How does L'Auborada compare to them?

Back to work tomorrow but it's only a couple more weeks before I will be back in PP (thank goodness!!!).

Is L'Auborada somewhere you would recommend returning to?

Hi James

We enjoyed L'Auborada but it's not quite in the same league as Clivia or any of the others that we enjoy (when child-free) in Pollensa such as Trencadora, Ca'n Costa or Cantonet.

I haven't eaten at La Fonda but have heard good reports and understand it specialises in Mallorcan cooking.

I would go back, without a doubt, as the setting is so lovely and the food was well-cooked and enjoyable. The staff were a slight let-down as they didn't seem to know what they were doing but other than that we had a great meal there.

Hope you enjoy your holiday in PP soon!

I certainly hope to!

La Fonda has a great interior decor and ambience (a mix of old and new) with old columns (Roman?) exposed in the walls positioned next to obscure modern art!

You generally need to book a table as it is not that big inside but a lot of the dishes (especially on the specialities menu) are hard to find elsewhere.

I like the way they cook duck there but I understand the Mallorcan Rabbit is also very good.

We were introduced to L'Auborada by our Mallorcian friends and enjoyed the food very much so we were disappointed to see last weekend that it had gone! In its place is a bar /
art (?) gallery..not sure! It's a shame as the place is lit up with bright flourescent lighting and it seems rather cold and out of keeping in the beautiful square.

Hi Debs,

That is a shame... I can't understand why it wasn't more popular as the restaurants at the foot of the steps were always busy.

Oh well... At least we ate there when we had the chance.:\

Thanks for the update,
Jane
