Hi there, I'm afraid I have been, until now, that terrible term - 'a lurker'.0] However just returning from another break in the port, I wanted to see if anyone else had had the same trouble...
I frequently go out to Port de Pollensa on my own, and of course come across many restaurant owners not appreciating a 'sole diner' taking up a table that could be had by two people eating far more than me. Often I wasn't fussed, especially since many of the 'facing the sea' restaurants have hiked their prices up so much in the last 3 years they're not worth it - Iru,
Miramar etc.
I hadn't previousely eaten at the
Stay on my own, preferring to keep it to a treat with family and friends. However after the 6 month fast from it, who could resist? :b
Well I was disappointed. I went on my first night, and although it still had that same Stay quality, I had, to Jose, suddenly disappeared. After 15 minutes I got the menu, and a further 20 placed my order. Although I had booked 2 weeks in advance, I was offered a table indoors before requesting to move. Coffee/dessert orders were equally slow to order. Thinking it was just a rusty start, (they'd only re-opened 5 days before) I returned on my last night. I'd emailed my booking, and gone in to book. I was again, seated far under the awning in front of the restaurant. Walk-in tables achieved far more enviable positions. I then had to ask for my order to be taken after nearly 35 minutes (coffee after 25). My disappointment really was that The Stay isn't perfect, although I can't deny, once my order was taken, the Stay routine kicked in perfectly - cutlery, bread, wine etc. I may be a sole diner, but through my previous visits to the Stay I've brought more than 20 people there in the last year!
The Tango meanwhile, treated me like a long lost friend (which I think I'm starting to be!:hat ), and I was far more looked after than not.
Maybe I sound as if I expect too much, but I'd become accustomed to the service at places like the Stay, and was surprised how much it changed once I wasn't accompanied by one other.
My question is to those other sole diners - where's best and where's not? I'm well aware of the general favourites, but I was surprised by the service of singles at the Stay, and wondered if others had had such experiences at other restaurants?
Looking forward to Sep 15th...
