the galeon

hi all again , could anyone tell me what has happened to the galeon, i was visiting my son who is working near alcudia, and the first thing i did was jump on bus to puerta pollensa, saw the above was closed, we always went there , thought it was lovely,

Donīt know how true or not but I have been told that at the beginning of the season the Galeon was acquired by a new owner who did not want to employ the exisiting staff and the only way he could get rid of them was to close for a year. After a year he can reopen and employ new staff.

Yes Deanscroft i heard something very similar but don't know if it was just "Chinese Whispers".

That's the story I heard as well from one of the people who would have been employed. Lets hope that it does reopen.

Hi

Is this the Galeon apartments at the end of the south beach that were under the same management as the Pollensa park ?

If so we were told by one of the PP staff that they had relinquished the leases they held ( the Bellamar and some others ) to concentrate on the ones they owned

Sparky 01-09-2011 09:31

Yes Copper that's the one.

Smiddy 02-09-2011 12:32

Seems odd to give up a business for a whole year
and what about the poor staff who have been made unemployed

copper 02-09-2011 14:43

Perhaps the group who own Pollensa park have redeployed the staff in their other premises

They have also given up the Bellamar which is also lying empty I presume the owners ot the premises will either sell them or find another company to lease them A real waste of 2 seafront properities so hope by next year that someoine will have taken them over

Deanscroft 02-09-2011 14:45

The same happens in the UK. Under employment law if you takeover a going concern or service you are required to also take on the exisiting staff and maintain their existing pay and conditions. Its called a TUPE transfer. If you donīt want the existing staff or if they refuse to renegotiate their pay and conditions the only way out is to close the business down. After 12 months you can reopen with new staff.

I heard a similar story about why they were closed. I was told that Tolo was pulling together a consortium to take it over - not sure if he still will do. Very sad to see it closed though.
