Just recently returned from another wonderful family holiday in PP. This year there were six of us ranging from teenagers to 50 year olds! As usual we met lots of nice people including Mr & Mrs Sparky (who does a great job managing the website), Chris Posito, The Smiddy clan (thank you for encouraging us to return to O’Lume at their new location) and last but not least Maureen and Kenny at Citrus who deserve to succeed.
Instead of listing all dishes in each of the restaurants we decided to list the best from each meal.
First night –
El Posito: great hospitality and food to match. We all ate from the chef recommended list and agreed the best dishes were the garlic baby squid, sucking pig and garlic John Dory. Best dessert Almond cake & ice cream. (This is where we met Mr & Mrs Sparky.) Chris Posito was very informative about the produce used in the cooking and made good recommendations for our party.
2nd night – Nico’s: teenagers favourite, fantastic welcome from Marcos. Shared roulette wheels with spicy chicken wings a favourite. Great Mexican food – serves some of the best steaks in the port.
3rd night –Citrus Bistro: best value for money for excellent food in the port. Favourite starter is the Tempura Chicken, couldn’t decide on favourite main as they are all of a very high standard, the homemade desserts toss up between Citrus cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Kenny (Chef) is very obliging and will offer alternatives where possible. Front of house is run by the bubbly and energetic Maureen. This is a must for everyone who goes to PP. Great food, great people not to be missed. Met the Smiddy’s here, thanks for the O’Lume recommendation!
4th night – Iru: one of the most beautiful settings in the port. This is a lovely restaurant for a special occasion try the local wine from Pollenca –Mortixt. Favourite starters fish soup and risotto with black truffle. Main course favourites - turbot and the lobster & prawn ravioli. Dessert crème brulee with chocolate cookies and mixed berry cheesecake.
5th night – Ikebana (traditional, family run restaurant close to the
Pollensa Park Hotel), although not located in the centre of the port is worth a visit. Starter Calamari Romana, mains suckling pig and shoulder of lamb (voted one of the best by Mr Gourmand), dessert homemade banoffi pie.
6th night – Free night (hooray!) the oldies decided to return to Citrus and the youngsters went Chinese. Started with Tempura Chicken and tuna & cod fish cakes, followed by Mediterranean pasta with goats cheese (delish!) and grilled salmon then shared a chocolate and orange torte. Another excellent meal! Youngsters all said the Dragon Oriente was great.
7th night –
Cellar La Parra new find for us, quirky interior and loved the grandfather clocks, when booking ask for a table inside. Croquettes and Serano Ham best starter, rabbit, suckling pig and lamb all jockeyed for top place in the mains with almond cake & ice cream again in top place for dessert. The house wine (jarrra de la casa) is home made and is great value at just over 5 Euros. Family run restaurant with friendly and helpful staff.
Think we all need to go on a diet!
