June 2007
We have just returned from a lovely week in Puerto Pollensa. This year we opted for an
apartment on the Pine Walk overlooking the sea - 20 out of 10 for location. What a wonderful view day and night and what fun just sitting and watching the world go by each day. It was also good if you have children as it provided much needed shade during the day!
We travelled with two children aged 6 and 3, but we still managed to eat out every night which is why PP is so great and family friendly.
Little Italy along the Pine Walk gets out vote for location, service and quality of food. The pizzas are excellent and so was the tomato and mozzeralla salad, which had been lovingly prepared and seasoned well. Be warned though, you will need to book ahead if you want a position outside or you will be seated inside on a hot summers night! We tried to book at lunch-time for the same night and couldn't get in.
The only bad experience we had was at Los Pescadores which is a small family restaurant along the Pine Walk just before Little Italy. We ordered Grilled Prawns off the fresh fish menu. There was no price advertised on the menu but we assumed that the price would be in-line with the rest of their menu. When the bill came we were horrified that we had been charged 38.00 euros or the equivalent of £26.50 for 8 grilled prawns and salad! We queried this with the waiter who told us that was the 'market price' as they were fresh. We bought a tray of 30 prawns from the supermarket last year for 10 euros! This is obviously a scam and we felt well and truly ripped off. The total bill was 105 euros and only 3 people ate. My husband camly told them what he thought of their business ethics! The next day we checked every restaurant along the beach front and no-one was charging anything like that amount for the same dish. The lesson we learnt was to never order anything unless you ask the price first!
Apart from that everything was great and we look forward to going back. One other highlight was the Coves D'Arta - breathtaking and really worth a visit!
