Default Il Giardino - pleasant surprise

After failing to get into two of our favourite haunts last week, eight of us found ourselves lured into Il Giardino by their three-course set menu.

It was an unexpected turn of events, but richly rewarding. Mrs Spudbag and I switched halfway through our gazpacho/carpaccio of beef - it beats making your mind up - and both were delicious.

We had two different but excellent pasta dishes for our mains - mine with nice smoky salmon and a rich sauce. The lemon chicken drew great approval from other parts of the table.

And among the dessert options there were, of course, tarts from their bakery round the corner. Splendid.

The little chipper (now 4) and he4 two-year old dining companion were well served for pasta too.

And, better still, the service and friendliness from the staff was simply smashing. Return visit guaranteed.

Hi Spudbag

Sounds really good! We've not been there for a few years - will put it on list for October.

Used to really like this restaurant but the menu doesn't seem to have changed for the last few years, when we first started going to this restaurant they used to change the sauce for the meat every year, and felt it was a bit overpriced for what you got, however the inside of the restaurant is really nice and we always opted to sit in rather than outside
