If the last refuge of a scoundrel is patriotism I'm just so pleased to be an absolute rogue !!

What a day and how enjoyable . Spent the morning consuming a bottle of Bolly and a few bacon sarnies. We , of course, had full tv coverage here . Call me an old softy but that wedding was just class, pure class from the music through to the performances of the major players. The clock here on the church struck eleven o'clock precisely as Catherine stepped out from her limo and despite the efforts of the council to dig out the lampposts a few minutes later it all seemed to go swimingly. Most bars had the their tvs on early this morning to attract as many visitors as possible. Weather could have been a bit warmer but rain ,as in London, stayed away.

Party in full swing at Can Balache this p.m. and going full swing at Hardley's tonight . Got old Leapy Lee up from Santa Ponsa and he was belting away early this evening .

Chicken Tika Masala might be Britain's no 1 dish but BLT and I headed for the Cod Father for a plate of the finest haddock & chips with mushy peas. Great food and total bill just over 30 euros including a very acceptable bottle of house white . Place became packed as folks drifted away from Hardley's.

Finished up in the Guinness suite with a couple of pints of Guinness to toast the health of the Colonel of the Irish Guards i.e. Our William.

We might try to hide our Britishness frequently but today was not one to do so.

Just felt so good to be British and God Bless the newly weds !!

Yes, remember seeing Leapy Lee in Puerto Pollensa at GINA'S on our second visit in 1988. We unexpectedly met up with friends from our home town and they took us to GINA'S. They suggested we sat outside (just 3 or 4 seats out there). After 20 minutes or so we went inside and found a great atmosphere to enjoy. Suddenly Leapy burst onto the stage and gave us his famous
"Little Arrows". Subsequently followed the tv series which featured Leapy in his pad at Santa Ponsa. It was a very amusing series - I think around that time Leapy's wife gave birth to twins. Leapy was always cooking up a curry for his "special night". Anyone else remember GINA's? What happened to Gina? Next time we visited Pollensa the venue had gorn.

Gina and her son still visit PP regularly. :D

Happy Days at Ginas Music Bar
 

Hi Northern Star - great to know that someone still remembers my old place GINA'S MUSIC BAR!

Leapy Lee was a good friend and a regular feature there twice a week for 3 or 4 years along with many other great artistes.
Unfortunately after more than 20 years of hard (but enjoyable) work, the owners who leased the premises to me decided they wanted to build a block of apartments there instead - so we had to close and the whole place was demolished! It's called - progress! But they were happy days and I like to feel we gave a lot of pleasure to hundreds of people over the years.....and we have some wonderful memories!!

As Sparky says, my son & I are regular visitors to PP. We were there early April and will be back again mid May & looking forward to a vino or three with old (and new) friends.:)

Thank you Northern Star for creating this opportunity for a walk down 'Memory Lane'.

Happy memories indeed. We all had so much fun! Gina is a good friend and still as gorgeous as ever.

Gina's Music Bar was Heart of Pollensa
 

Hi Gina
So good to hear that you are still visiting Puerto Pollensa. Your Music Bar certainly made an impression on us. Our friends seemed a little shy of venturing inside but once in there we all realised you were the centre of Pollensa. Our home town friend was a well-known singer in our annual local opera show and I tried to encourage him to get up and sing in Gina's. He half rose to his feet several times - but his wife gave him some stern looks (he had had a few drinks at this stage) and he decided to sit down without contributing to the festivities.
The atmosphere in your Music Bar was something to enjoy and will look around this year when in the Port to see if anything comes close. Still enjoying Pollensa and love to hear the music.

Yes Northern Star you are correct when you say that Gina’s Music Bar was indeed the Centre of Puerto Pollensa. We were the very first Bar to be granted a ‘live ‘ music license (after a long and hard battle with the “powers that be”) so of course people used to be fighting for seats every night. We really did have some fabulous times and over the years a fantastic number of great artists graced our stage.

On my regular visits to the port I am often stopped by past customers and residents who still remember Gina’s Music Bar and they all say how much they miss it! But times and tastes change and although you will not find anything quite like it now, there are still some fabulous places offering good entertainment.
I think the closest you will find to Gina’s is The Palms Bar (opposite the Pollensa Park Hotel) who have great tribute acts every night throughout the season and of course Nostalgia (just off the square). As well as owner Colin providing excellent music of his own there is Karaoke most nights until the early hours.

It would be nice to meet up if our dates ever coincide and share a vino or three whilst taking a trip down Memory Lane :D.
