Default Bars

One of our favourite pastimes in Mallorca is to sit in a bar and watch the world go by and PP and Pollensa have some great places to have a drink.

We go to the Café Espanyol in Pollensa a lot…the waiter recognises us and knows which drinks we have and it’s great to sit and gaze at the view of the Puig de Maria. One day, I’m going to climb it and gaze down at the Café Espanyol.

A new bar has opened close by. Called La Birreria it specialises in beer (!) and one night hubby disappeared completely leaving me to find a table and order the drinks at the Café Espanyol. Wondering where on earth he’d got to, I saw him emerging from the bar with a bottle in his hand.

“It’s 11%!” he almost shouted. “What a great place!”

La Birreria has about 50 beers from Belgium, France, Germany and the UK including a Scottish one at 8%. Surely any beer aficionado could find something to satisfy them here! They also do a normal range of drinks and snacks.

We also popped into Sutton’s one very hot evening. It’s a pleasant place, right on the seafront of PP and has a small covered terrace at the front and a larger terrace at the back. Upstairs there’s a restaurant. Hubby was especially pleased with his ice-cold beer glass that came straight out of the freezer and on a hot evening was very welcome!

We also went to Bony’s, of course, and again those giant fans were a wonderful relief from the sweltering temperatures in our second week. Other watering holes nearby were Café L’Algar for huge ice-creams and Bar Cultural where we met up with Timberman and his wife and watched the stall-holders unpack their wares which are now being touted in the square.

Hubby ventured into Mulligan's one Sunday afternoon to watch Newcastle play Middlesbrough - they have Setanta sport which seem to have taken over a lot of the football games from Sky.

Lastly, we decided to give Bar Juma in Pollensa old town another try and went for a drink and an ice-cream after our disappointing meal at Eu Centro. It still took us a while to attract the attention of the young waitress who walked past us three times and then peered at us out of the window, but the atmosphere in the square at night and the delicious ice-creams put us in the mood to relax. Funnily enough our experience this year was one of the highlights of the holiday!

Cheers!!

Jane
