seems a bit dear, last xmas day we were at trio for 15 euro or so a head, cant remember exactly but I paid the bill for 6 of us and it was under 200 euro and we were in from 2 till 6 incl drinks etc

cumberland8 28-11-2010 00:11

I would agree, but do you want to work on Xmas day?

lollipop 28-11-2010 11:06

Trio charge their normal MDD price but include turkey as one of the choices if you ask, and some different sweetsare available. They are aways busy with both locals, ex pats and holiday makers. Depends on how special you want your meal to be .

no i dont want to work on xmas day and agree prices should be higher

just dont want to see pp going the same way as prices here at xmas

nice hotel by us where you can get a good meal for about 30 quid normally are asking £90 this year for xmas dinner, wouldnt like to see the trend continuing in spain

debz1 28-11-2010 15:49

I thnk the Hells kitchen menu for Christmas day sounds really reasonable....
42 € works out about 36 quid! Cant think of anywhere in the UK you'd get a 5 course meal including wine for that price.

I would imagine the staff would be on double pay for working Christmas day so that has to be taken in to account. The prices in PP are still very good and havent increased much, if at all ,over the last few years , it's just the lousy exchange rate at the moment. The restaurant owners cant take the blame for that.

Belladonna 29-11-2010 10:59

Its a good idea for there to be a choice of restaurants with a choice of prices at any time of year.
They haven't advertised their Christmas menu, but if you look at Stay's menu for the new year, its pretty expensive on first glance:
Stay Restaurant

But I bet there will be more than a few takers that night!

Compared to them, Hells Kitchen is extremely cheap.
I expect there will be cheaper options too that may not be advertised, you just have to know someone who knows as they say!

It depends on what you want on the day to what you are prepared to pay. After all, you can always stay at home and cook it yourself and watch TV.

Or... get a group together, all chose a different restaurant, and run between each restaurant for the next course! High heels optional.;)

Mulligans is also open on Christmas Day according to the new owners, Julie & Dave.
I am not sure what the food offer will be (dreadful memory!!) but Julie said that Guillermo from The Hustlers would be playing music there during the proceedings.

We have eaten at Tango for the past two years and a very good meal it was as well. If you want a window seat book early because they have some quite large groups in. The price is the same or even slightly lower than last year.

kate1 03-12-2010 18:10

Actually I don't think even the Stay sounds wildly extortionate given the quality (and size) of the meal - and a free bar all night! And what a place to celebrate New Year... I would say that was competitive with the UK where even quite ordinary pubs seems to charge a minimum of £75 for New Year's Eve festivities - with a much more limited menu and a single glass of fizz.

Sitting here with a broken heating system, staring at a foot of snow, I would gladly pay a premium to be at the Stay on New Year's Eve...

That Tango Christmas menu sounds delicious - an absolute bargain. Wish I could be there!

Belladonna 03-12-2010 19:03

Totally agree Kate! If the kids were not descending on us over the New Year I would have blown the flight budget and gone over to bring in the New Year at Stay.
Mind you, having just got our mobile phone bill in for when we were over last I may leave the phone behind next time!

OH NO!!!!! So easy to do Bella. So annoying too - why does it have to cost so much - i've never really got to grips with that one.

I agree too. Christmas lunch at Tangos followed by New Years Eve at Stay couldn't be better than that. Oh well - in my dreams...!

lollipop 04-12-2010 16:54

JMD40 11-12-2010 23:10

The reduction in the price at Trio proves how bad the recession has hit us here. The last couple of years Trio has been 100euros approx. There are some reasonable prices for good food out there this year. Casinet also have very reasonable prices for both xmas and new year. Last night I had a drink in LULUS in Pollensa and she will be open for Xmas Day lunch for anyone interested in typical British fayre at sensible price with a nice cosy atmostphere. I think she will probably be open New Year eve also.

Belladonna 13-12-2010 11:01

He said 'Lets just fly out for a couple of days and have dinner at Stay'!

Seriously thinking about it now....if I can get the shopping finished, get the presents wrapped, decorate the tree, buy all the food, get the house ready for 16 on The Day.... and have the obligatory nervous breakdown

Stop Whinging Woman !!!!

You obviously haven't read today's Torygraph which details a report that claims men do far more housework than women give them credit for . It claims that women do not notice because men don't like to " make a fuss ".

Xmas is pretty stressful for us guys as well . How much booze shall we get in, what can we buy at 5.30 p.m. Christmas Eve for the missus , can we manage to stay awake & watch the cricket all night , will we have to clear up the reindeer s**t off the lawn Xmas morning .........

I could go on

Merry Crimble, everyone

sws97sdg 16-12-2010 12:12

Thanks for your continued good work Sparky, its great to see so many places open over Christmas, it really is becoming a year round resort, I have always wanted to get away over Christmas and the new year, may have to seriously consider it for next year :)

Sparky 16-12-2010 12:37

I am trying to help all the businesses SWS. So many people seem to think that PP closes down for the winter and it is just not true, yes of course many places don't stay open and unfortuneately some have closed permanently but it is not all gloom and doom. :D
Oh and i forgot to say that the Christmas Lights are on, ok it's not Blackpool Illuminations but at least we have some. ;)

sws97sdg 16-12-2010 12:55

Sounds nice Sparky, any chance of a picture, when you are better :)

Sparky 16-12-2010 13:05

Will do, probably at the weekend SWS ;).

sws97sdg 16-12-2010 13:08

Gracias mi amiga

Lorenzo 16-12-2010 14:13

Mulligans

Thanks for letting us know about Mulligans plans for the festive period Sparky.

Really glad to read that The Hustlers will be back in Mulligans for New Year's Eve too!:) Should be a great night! Shame I can't be there :(

Nick 16-12-2010 14:54

Sparky is dead right........PP is an ALL YEAR ROUND resort and I think this needs to be advertised as part of the great attraction to the town.

It can be beautiful out of season without the throng of so many tourists. The winter days can be warm and sunny with blue skies and there are pleanty of cafe bars and restaurants open. Remember, PP is a proper functioning town, not just a summer resort.

I think the only problem is the reduced frequency of flights. I believe airlines are missing out on a trick here. They could earn some decent revenue off season.

Wish I was there, this sounds excellent value.:)

JMD40 20-12-2010 22:33

The crisis has brought all these prices into most peoples reach which is good news. We have not decided where to go New Year yet but there are plenty of sensible offers out there this year. At last the restaurants have listened to their clients and the street and really understand that the money is not available.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.

Sparky 26-12-2010 11:48

The port is much quieter this year, we had a walk around and there were far less people about. It was the same on Christmas Eve but i think the atmosphere was still great.

We had our Christmas Lunch in Hell's Kitchen and i have to say it was worth every cent. We had a couple of glasses each of pink cava before we sat at our beautifully laid table, the food as always was superb (please read my first post on this thread for the menu) and the service from Gary and his lovely wife Ana was second to none, the homemade mince pies had to be taken home as we just could not eat another mouthful but i ate mine last night and they were excellent. Thank you Ian and the gang for a fantastic afternoon :D:D.
