The Fussies hit town part II (8 - 10 July)
8th July The holiday progresses time to try out for me an old favourite Los Zarzales but for Mrs Fussy this could be a problem she did not enjoy her visit last September. To be fair on that occasion we arrived late, very late last customers of the evening. However this time we arrived around 9:00pm on a lovely summers evening, seated in the garden. Yolanda came to take our order we debated with her the sea bass baked in salt, a particular favourite of ours. The fish were duly presented for our inspection and a selection made Yolanda was I'm sure of opinion that fish was not large enough. Mrs Fussy thought it was too big for her alone so I was having fish whether I wanted to or not. Yolanda suggested a Majorcan wine can't remember name but it was sauvigon blanc based, bit worried at this as I hadn't seen the wine list!! Needn't have worried wine was excellent and more to the point only 12 euros, for me it was only beaten by one other on this holiday great wine and a bargin price. Started with mussels very good indeed, then followed with the fish. A very fine meal indeed all in all for Mr & Mrs Fussy this came to 72 euros. Noticed some previous posts were diners were unimpressed by either food or service and I see from the web site its their 10th anniversary year. All I can say with food and service as we experienced I'm sure they will still be here in another 10 years. Definitely recommend Los Zarzales.
9th July A day off for me I had an appointment at the planetarium at Costitx so no evening meal for me. Instead I had a sandwich from Alfresco. Miss Fussy recommended this place a couple of years ago as they cater for her needs (mainly vegetarian) indeed she seems to purchase her food from there every other day this year. Definitely recommended when eating in. It might have been my night off but Mrs & Miss Fussy decided to have a girlie night out at the Tapas & Beef Club. Not sure what they ate but they selected five dishes between all declared very good but four plates would have been enough. Only downside is the location (Virgin del Carmen beside Tots), Miss Fussy though the other establishement L'Almirant on the front has the edge purely on location. 30 Euros
10th July The star of the holiday O Lume.
Mr & Mrs Fussy plus Mr & Mrs Friend, Miss Fussy would join us later. Been here a couple of times but its proved difficult to convince the others to give it a try. Tonight off to a good start we could get a table!! However it was a very warm muggy night and we selected the wrong table it must have been the furthest from a fan in the entire restaurant. Three were having the set menu so I mentioned to Jamie that Mrs Fussy had not been happy with the white house wine on our last visit. Jamie could not have been more helpful, and after hearing the complaint produced this years house wine and if it was not up to expectations another would be offered. Mrs Fussy pronounced wine was ok and all were duely relieved. Can't quite recall all that was ordered but definitely 2 soups for starters, the salmon and two chicken and mushroom sauce from the set menus. I ordered the sea food spagetti (half portion) then the T bone steak. Jamie suggested I really wanted only the half portion T bone I wondered if this was challenge but decided to go with the recommendation. As the others were all drinking white and I wanted red wine I asked for Jamies recommendation. He suggested a Marquess Victoria Rioja, a fine choice and about 6.70 euros a half bottle!! Now Mrs Fussy likes her soup hot this was piping hot so no compaints there the salmon was also pronounced very good, Friends enjoyed there chicken and for me its hard to say what was best the starter or the steak both really good. Miss Fussy turned up during mains decide she wanted desert (the chocolate mousse). We finished up with coffee the chocolates and the complimentary liquers. Miss Fussy talked to Jamie and he agreed with some notice he would have a vegetarian meal prepared for her if she wished. We all left raving about the food and service. Our share of the bill was 56 euros for what was for me the best meal of the holiday. I encourage all forum members to walk in sit down and have a meal don't be put off by the setting this is a gem of a restaurant.
