Default Winners & Losers Los Faroles & Ca'n Josep

Spain were playing Germany in the semifinal. So where does one go the eat when having no interest in watching the game. Choice came down to Ca'n Josep or Los Faroles. Ca'n Josep was visited last year and received favourable comment. Los Faroles in 14 years had never seemed inviting from the street and I'd never ventured in. Following a quick view of each establishment it was obvious everyone in Ca'n Josep was sitting at tables facing the TV screens, our option would have been to sit facing all the other diners with our backs to the screen or go to Los Faroles. Los Faroles was pronounced the winner. Didn't particularly want a street table and confirmed with waiter that had aircon inside, they did so in we went. What a surprise a nice restaurant proper chairs and tables with double table cloths (ask Jamie at O Lume for explanation) and the meat and fish were on display for selection. My kind of place.
Nice selection of olives and pickles on table, gazpacho for me followed by a beautiful piece of grilled sole for MrsFussie and shoulder of lamb for me. It fell off the bone. All washed down with a bottle of Albinario finished off with coffee 48 euros. Highly recommended.

By the time we had finished Spain were up 1- 0 with less than 15 minutes to go. Waiters were getting excited but remained attentive to customers, cava opened, and with glasses of freebie cava off we went to watch remainder of match at front of restaurant with other diners and staff.

Yes another great eveing in PP. I even had to remind staff we still hadn't paid
Seems diners in Ca'n Josep were not so lucky not only did they watch the match so apparently did the staff, service was reported as slow to non-existent at times. But then Spain did get through to finals

I do love your reviews, Fussies! Interesting to hear that you had such a good experience in Los Faroles - like you we had been put off in the past by the exterior but a couple of foodie locals have recommended it to us and now we will definitely try it!

Thumbs up Los Faroles

Our first vist to LF was on a chilly November nite, 2 years ago. Had just arrived, unpacked and went out to find out where was open for food ( not a lot )
We had a bit of a mish mash between 3 of us of starters/main courses/ desserts, water/ wine/ beer/coffee... u know what flying is like... ur sorta hungry but not quite but we were totally convinced that night, that this was a restaurant we would revisit. ( and we did that week, another twice ! )
We have eaten there often now and it suprises me that there have not been more posts about this restaurant. It is always well supported by the locals when we have been there, many obviously celebrating a birthday/ anniversary event and that is usually a good sign.
Glad u tried, TheFussies, and weren't disappointed !

Miriam
