Thumbs up G & G Restaurante- June 2010

Just back from a lovely, relaxing week in PP (was last in Mallorca in 1990!) We had budgeted for eating out every night (family of 4 with seven year old twins) and were under no illusion that prices have increased/ poor exchange rate etc. We were looking for quality food with good ambience and a decent choice for children. On our first night we came across a new restaurant (on the seafront-same block as Simbad, D'Olivera) called G & G Restaurante. It's only been open for 3 months and is owned by a delightful Swedish/Norwegian couple (Teresa & Klaus). The food was excellent, beautifully presented and the menu quite different. Our girls loved the Swedish meatballs and homemade cheesecake. Subsequent meals in other restaurants were okay (quite disappointed in general about variety of children's menus- guess we are quite lucky to have children who like vegetables/salad with their meals and can't manage chips every night). We found ourselves looking forward to returning to G & G and had a great meal on our last night. Very happy to be handing over 60-70 hard earned euros (paid on average 50-60 euros for family of 4 each night). Hope others will give G & G a try!

Hi "aprilseven"

I've been into G and G and as you rightly say they are a very nice young couple. Very friendly.

He is an ex journalist and has some fantastic sporting photo's on his walls that have been blown up. The one of a young Mike Tyson is particularly good and has a story behind it.

The wife has decorated the place with Ikea bits and pieces and it is very clean and smart.

My kind of place. I'm out again in August and will definitely re-visit.

Good luck to them.

Aprilseven,
Based on your report we ventured into G&G's yesterday, our last day, for coffee and cake. The cakes were delicious (the frozen cheese cake for Mrs Fussie and the apple cake for me), Coffee was also of good quality cost 3.50 euros each. Like you we spoke with the owners and they are a great couple. Liked it so much we went back for for an early evening meal before departure. Chef was very obliging as Mrs Fussie wanted pasta but not with a cream sauce so he prepared a special vegetarian pasta just for her. I had the home made burger, again of great quality. Normally I wouldn't look at a burger on holiday but following the afternoon discussions they had just purchased the meat for among other things the burgers. Burger came with G&G's own tomato and BBQ sauce and very tasty chunky chips with salad We finished of with the deepfried nougat and icecream a gem of dish wrapped in filo pastry. Coupled with a beer and rosada, very good bread, olives and ali oli, good friendly service a most enjoyable experience at 36 euros. We will definitely be back next year. This is a restaurant that deserves to to do well.

Mr Fussie

Just returned from PP last night and had 2 great meals at G+G's. Agree with everything above. Richard the chef is a very talented lad. Really hope this place survives after what has been a really tough 1st season. They serve really good quality food, are very freindly, and have some great ideas like the kids corner, the G+G beachbag for 6 euro and the after beach cheap drinks menu. We had 2 of our best meals at this place and the outlook is fantastic. Will do a full review on all the restaurants we visited later

We have just returned from another wonderful 15 days in PP and having seen the reviews about G & G we decided to try it our first week, it was excellent, great friendly service and really wonderful food.
We do not normally go to the same restaurant twice in the same holiday but we enjoyed ourselves so much we booked and went back last night, again we had another wonderful meal (we had been at Stay the night before, G & G is better!)
Teresa & Klaus are great hosts and deserve to succeed, we would definately advise you to go, we will certainly be back in October.

Hi Mandy, directions from earlier in the thread (on the seafront-same block as Simbad, D'Olivera) Just to add we didn't eat there but had some of their beach bags, for 6 Euros you get a baguette, cheese or ham etc, bag of chips and a beer, water or soft drink, just right for a quick snack on the beach, tasted great. While I was waiting a had a beer and a chat to the owner, really nice guy, ran through all the meal options, they are doing a 4 course meal that looked good value, he also said that if you wanted something not on the menu or if you were veggie, the chef would make you something with the ingredients they had as they are small and flexible enough to do this. He said feedback had been good on their food and he was confident of starting to get repeat business next year, good luck to them both.

Thanks Aprilseven. Not a place I'd noticed when we were out in July/August. Trouble is we're creatures of habit but this sounds like a venue to visit next year.....let's hope they are still there as it sound like they deserve to.

Is this the same place that used to be run by Migel (now at C'an Josep)?

Duncan

I am just back, had a lovely meal at G & G however the best bit was when Teresa sang the most beautiful song whilst we waited for our meals.. They deserve this place to be a success..

Hi Wrightstuff,

Teresa sang when we were at the restaurant on Saturday night and you are right she has a wonderful voice, she was a singer before she married klaus.

Hi Mandy, directions from earlier in the thread (on the seafront-same block as Simbad,

Thanks for the info as to where it is - another one to add to the growing list of places we want to try!!!! Thing is our 2 weeks in PP each year is not enough to get round all of these lovely eateries, think we will have to visit more often, what a shame!!!!

9 days to go !!!!

I have to agree with above - in 5 years of visiting the island we have not had a nicer meal!

Returned yesterday after a 10 day visit and had the pleasure of eating here twice. Food was excellent, presentation was superb and we could not have a more friendly welcome. The steak with blue cheese and the frozen cheesecake were sublime.

We liked it so much we decided to go back on the last night of our trip.

This is a must visit restaurant for any trip to PP.
