Does the owner of Loz Z sister Alicia still work there? She had a restaurant years ago opposite the Maricel Apartments and then one close to the Flora Apartments. Then closed up. Such a lovely girl, we rented her apartment one year. When they were near the Maricel we used to go for our dinner and never come out until late full up completely. Red wine was excellent apparrently grown in Dads vinyard.!!

Default Los Zarzales - fantastic food but not great Service

I write this with a real feeling of disapointment

Los Zarzales is one of my favourite places to eat

We booked for 6 people to eat at 8pm one evening last week

Sadly for us, when we arrived we were all pretty hungry

Our party arrived in 2 halves ...... the first 3 got their drinks order taken promptly and drinks arrived within a reasonable period of time ........... the rest of us arrived just after 8 and waited longer than we would have expected for our drinks order to be taken ( but not a worrying length of time )

We then waited at least another 30mins for our food order to be taken ........... in fact we ended up calling a waiter over to ask if we could order.

In the past we have always been given a small appetiser, so no one ordered a starter ......... we were content to have bread, alioli, olives and the expected appetiser.

Bread , olives etc arrived about 10 mins after the food order was taken .......... but no appetisers were offered ..... disappointing, but again not a real problem

And then we waited and waited and waited for our food ....... by 9.30 we were starving , Yolander did come over and tell us that it would be with us shortly, so she was well aware that we were waiting ( interestingly, during the whole hour and a half we only saw 1 main course go out of the kitchen, despite most tables being full by 8.30 )

Food arrived about 9.40 ......... about a 10min gap between first and last dish arriving at the table, such that some of us had to start before others food arrived.

Food was absolutely gorgeous with the exception of the lamb which my sister said was nowhere near as nice as that eatn at Bar Coral a few nights earlier ( but of course that is personal taste )

No one ordered a desert ( despite all being hungry enough to eat one ) for fear of the length of the wait .......... we just paid the bill, commented that the food was delicious but that even with great company, nearly 2 hours is too long to wait.

Overwelming verdict was 10/10 for food and 0/10 for Service .......... yes we do like to take our time over a meal, yes we appreciate freshly cooked food and yes we appreciate that when you don;t order a starter you will wait longer for a main course ......... BUT I don;t expect to book a table for 8 and see nothing but bread and olives until 9.40. I think they were short staffed ( Alicia had been called in to serve ) BUT the table we booked the previous evening was the last available and most people were arriving between 8 and 8.30 so they knew there would be people expecting to be eating by 9.

We wandered back up the pinewalk and had coffee, cake and brandy...... hardly fine dining but it filled a little hole

Such a shame cd. There seems to be a bit of a trend with slow service here, which, as you say, is ok to a point but not so great when your stomach starts to rumble! Really hope they get it sorted by September.

Good idea! If September counts as out of season, we will see you there!

We unfortunately had a very similar experiance in June super food, extremely slow service which is a shame because it is one of our regulars.
However 2 days to go & the Cumberlands will put all these to the full test.

Went to Los Z. first week in June this year and had excellent meal and good service,
but, there were only a few tables taken (inside) due to the slightly inclement weather and it being early season.
Yolanda was around, front of house etc., and the waitress was possibly Estonian or Romanian. Noticed Alicia wasn't around this year. As said, service good on the night, waitress spoke good english having previously worked in the U.K. A very pleasant evening overall.
Sorry you had such a disapointing evening CD. We have all had such an evening somewhere during our hols over the years, though I understand thats no consolation
