Default Makassar ???

Funny kind of night, really.

Decided to eat out but can't be bothered to argue where. Thought we'd try Serenity Coast but, like most places in the Square, in complete darkness. really can't be ar**d to venture too far so it's a toss up between Kashmir and Makassar. Have never eaten in Makassar ( but loads of coffee there over the years ) mainly because they were originall owned by Tiberi , not one of our favourite haunts so surprised to end up in there tonight.

First of all, intrigued by the name and associated with a BBQ lounge ?? . Makassar , I believe, is an Indonesian city founded by the Portuguese many years ago. Looking at the menu , where meat is the main deal, reminded me of those sort of Brazilian/Portuguese eateries that carnivores relish.

BonyLadette ( in a strange mood since Sunday , when apparently a couple of guys called John & Edward on the telly have upset her, what's that about, guys ??? ) decides we'll ignore the MDD at 15 Euros per head and get into the meat.

So starters of Fried Green Peppers and stuffed mussels , where we swap plates half way through and then onto the mains of lamb chops in honey and rosemary sauce. Very nice but far too much meat for both of us. However nicely cooked and delivered "what it said on the tin ". House wine pretty acceptable as well.

Place partially full and we were joined by what appeared to be about 16 ramblers/walkers midway through the meal so probably a good night for them as it's early Nov.

Was enjoying the vintage tapes of Eric being played on the telly ( Classic Clapton when he looked like Manson and obviously just done three yards of the old Bolivian Marching Powder !!!! ) but this was shortlived cos it got cut to Milan v Madrid ( Why does footy rule our lives now ??? )

Service nice and friendly and very clean place . Sparky, they've even got a Wrigley's vending machine in the gents ( keeps your pension going !!!! ) . Great if your needs are dental rather than sexual !!!!

So summing up, delivers what it says. Can't fault it but not sure with greater competition available , it would be high on my list of return visits.

Anyone know why it's called Makassar out of interest ???

Thanks BL, great review. I heard it was under new ownership, as you know, it was part of the Mojito empire. Nice to hear they are helping to keep my pension fund alive.

Thanks Sparky,

When the coast is clear , take a peek around the door. It's a super deluxe machine which must dispense 6 or maybe 8 or 9 different flavours !!!!!

Wouldn't try any Sparky, would probably be a bit too chewy - if you know what I mean!!!!!!
