TRIP REPORT: Holiday report

Arrived Tuesday 6th October to a warm, sunny PP day. Stayed at an apartment overlooking the beach, located down towards the Pollensa Park Hotel. Great location with a short stroll into town, Pine Walk and also to the Tango Restaurant in the other direction. Have to say that the apartment was very small but with a great rooftop terrace and hot tub. What wonderful views.
Restaurant Reviews:
6th Oct Simbad: We both had tumbet (aubergine, potato, courgette, onion and red pepper in a tomato sauce) with sucking pig €11, 1L jug Sangria €12.50(yes a bit pricey), 1 Lemon Meringue €4.00. We chose this restaurant because it was quite full (always a good sign). Food was lovely. Service was efficient but felt somewhat rushed. The younger waitress didn't smile once.

7th Oct CSV. We planned to go to CSV to eat at the Bistro Mar as someone on the Forum siad it was run by the couple who used to own Balaxia. CSV was deserted at 7.30pm. On entering Bistro Mar we noticed lots of mossies. Ordered drinks and sat down but the mossies were so bad that we left our drinks, paid and left. We got the impression this restaurant wasn't the one we wanted anyway as staff were Spanish. In no great hurry to revisit CSV. Ended up at the TANGO (always been a favourite of ours) on the coast road outside Pollensa. Had Menu del dia at €16.80. We both had French Onion soup, 1 Grilled Bass, 1 Breaded langoustines (both served with proper fresh veggies), 1 Lemon meringue and 1 Lemon mousse. Bread and olives were included in the price along with beer and wine. Excellent meal as always. Fantastic attentive, friendly service in a lovely location.

8th Oct Mirch Massala Indian (from a recommendation on the forum). Menu del dia €15.90. Poppadom and chutnies. 1 x meat samosa which was very bland, 1 chicken tikka which had no real taste at all. 1 chicken jalfreizi, 1 chicken curry. Both main dishes were saturated in oil and tasteless. 2 x lemon sorbets which were too sweet to eat much of. Ambiance was zilch. Mossies were in abundance yet again. Certainly wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any of my friends.

9th Oct Don Corleone, Pine Walk. (AVOID AT ALL COSTS)Menu del dia €12.00. 1 x soup (unable to identify exactly what was in it). 1 x sardines, revolting. 1 x four seasons pizza €9.75 which tasted and cut like cardboard. 1 x fruit salad, tinned. Best part of the meal was the bread, olives and aoili.

10th Oct Back to the Simbad again. Tumbet with suckling pig, not much meat this time. Tumbet with lamb, very nice. 1 Lemon meringue pie. 1 large beer, 1 fanta orange Total €32 The young waitress still couldn't raise a smile and that would stop us from revisiting. Service again was very rushed.

11th Oct Back to Tango.
2 x chautaubriand €21 each, served with jacket pot and nice selection of fresh veg. Served tableside as normal. Fantastic
1 x lemon mousse €3.50, 1 x creme catalan €3.95. 1 x House Red (Faustino VII) €10. This was our best meal of the holiday.

12th Oct LAST DAY Tango again. Menu del dia €16.80
Avocado, tuna and prawns, 1 grilled sea bass, 1 fresh fruit salad (not a tin in sight) 1 beer, bread and olives
1 x avocado with prawns €6.95
1 x fillet steak with rocquefort sauce €20
1 Fanta orange, 1 still water
Total bill was €52.35

Really enjoyed our week in PP. It was lovely to stroll along the Pine Walk each morning. The weather was fantastic. Mossies were a real pain, literally.
We did feel that the restaurant prices were v. high. unless you chose the Menu del dia which on the whole was good value. As much as we enjoyed PP we wouldn't be tempted to revisit anytime soon as the resort is too expensive. We did visit some other resorts, namely Cala Bona and Cala Millor and found these much less expensive. Admittedly these resorts are nothing as pretty as PP and do not have architecture like PP but the food and drinks were as good, if not better.

We didn't get to see the England footie game but we soon got over it. The weather was fantastic and the locals cafe in the main square was a great place to chill out and people watch.

Afraid that seems to be the general opinion at the moment. I agree with your comments on the restaurants, Tango being the most reliable. Perhaps we should carry on staying at at PP, but spreading our wings for restaurants to further places - would that make them sit up and notice I wonder?

Do Tango still serve every main course with a jacket potato wrapped in foil with a plastic fork sticking out the top? I always found that a bit off putting. It's the sort of food you'd expect at a firework display.

'fraid so MP - it is the only thing that lets the place down in my opinion. I wou;d prefere to see some more imaginative taties

They usually serve boiled potatoes with fish,certainly hubby had boiled this week with his fish.
