Default La fonda

Having posted re lomo con col at La Fonda in the past I thought I'd start a new thread... has anyone eaten at this restaurant in the old town recently? It used to be one of our favourites, both for lovely traditional Mallorcan food and for the beautiful building - but a couple of years ago we were really disappointed. I had cod that was inedible because of its salt content - they could have used it to grit roads - and the rest of the mean wasn't much better. They used to do fantastic chipirones so I'd love to go there again, but it's a bit expensive this year to make the wrong choice when eating out. They don't do a menu del dia either. I'd love any feedback!

Hi kate

We ate at La Fonda back in 2006 and we weren't impressed with our meal then. I can't think of any recent reviews as this restaurant doesn't get mentioned very much on here. Hopefully, someone who has been there recently will respond.

My review is here from 2006:

La fonda is one of our fav restaurants. Our first visit was 2 years ago and loved it from the start ! Had a zanny waiter that was an added extra !
Ate there this evening... house special, duck with orange sauce, mmmmmm and usual S. steak for the other half (steak wasnt the best... but far from the worse) And then Baked apple ! I am not a dessert person...more savory, but it was all I could do to not steal the plate so I could get the last remnants of this dessert ! Just wondering if I could just order the baked apple for all 3 courses next time !

( missed the zanny waiter tho... nite off maybe)

Many thanks for this Miriam! Possibly the few negative reviews of the past few years had filtered back to them and they've sorted out the problems - certainly when we've looked in on recent visits they hadn't been as busy as in the past - it's good to know that we can return as I love the ambience of this restaurant.

I've eaten there regularly over the years, and with the odd exception it's always been good. rabbit and other traditional mallorcan dishes are usually a good bet. Perhaps they forgot to desalt the bacalao.
