Default Bad Experience.......

Most eating experiences are good ones whilst on holiday, especially following the many recommendations on this forum but occasionally you do get ripped off.

This is my tale:

After visiting the market in Alcudia old town we decided to have a drink and a snack, we walked for about 10 mins to the outskirts of the town walls and sat down outside a bar (sorry - don't know the name) we asked for the menu and ordered a cafe con leche and a vino tinto. From the menu we ordered a tuna baguette (3.70€) and an omelette roll (4.10€). I always check the bill after finding several discrepancies in the past! They had charged 4.30€ for the tuna baguette. When I went to pay the bill I asked why the difference in price for tuna baguette - I was told that it was for eating outside!!!! The pavement that we were sitting on, she referred to as a terrace I didn't argue but didn't leave the 1€ tip that I had planned to. It was them that lost out not me.

The moral of the story is - always check your bill - Money is tight enough at the moment and holiday makers seem an easy target for unscrupulous traders.

Certainly common practice in France & Italy to have differential prices for service at the bar and service at a table, but I've never (knowingly) come across it Spain. However, a priced menu is a priced menu and I agree this sounds like a tourist rip-off.
