La Posada d'Ariant - old Pollensa

La Posada d'Ariamnt is in a great location for those evenings when you’d rather people watch than chat. We had a table on the edge which meant we could watch the people watching us eat. I do enjoy giving the odd one a steely stare and watch them quickly look away. Yes, I do indeed have a nasty streak.

Pimientos de Padron were an OK starter. Nicely fried and with a scattering of large granules of salt but with no discernable flavour of the olive oil still clinging to them which I think marks out a good PdP. And no surprise hot one either.

The other starter was a main course but we asked for a small portion. Marrow stuffed with veggies. Not a success – the whole thing being very bland with no identifiable flavour of anything. It was covered with a white sauce that might have intended to be cheese or, perhaps, just a plain béchamel. Just boring, not least as it didn’t really contribute anything to the dish and could just as easily have been left off. It’d have been some degree of improvement if they’d stuck it under the salamander for a minute or two to brown and bake on.

La Posada takes a straightforward approach to plating up food. The same mix of sliced spuds and veg are put on everyone’s plate and the protein then bunged on top.

A “bunged” fillet steak was properly cooked to medium and had a reasonable flavour but nothing outstanding.

The “bunged” shoulder of lamb was enormous – very tender but not of the best quality (unsurprising considering its very reasonable price tag). It had been roasted with a honey glaze which made it quite sweet. Lamb is already sweet and, to my taste, the honey detracted from the taste of the meat and spoilt it somewhat. That said, I scoffed the lot, of course.

Desserts of mixed ice creams and sorbets were fine, as was coffee.

It’s another place which doesn’t do half bottles of wine but life’s companion drank about half of a full bottle of something red and Mallorcan. We also had some water. Service had been attentive and efficient and we added a few euros to the €96 bill.
