Just returned from 2 weeks excellent holiday in villa just outside Old Town. Very good weather and even better eating. Old faves like El Giardino (3 times) and Can Olesa (twice) were up to high standards with Padron peppers at Can Olesa being a big hit. Boy is a bit older now and refuses to have kids menu and he worked his way through very good pasta meals at El G. Great service and booking not a problem except on last night Sat 23rd when we left it late in booking and had to settle for inside seat...though this was deemed by all to be just as good. Bresoala starter was fave and rack of lamb and salmon pasta were winners ...meals with wine and 2 puds for kids were about €110 ish
Tried new style L'aup on Sat 16th booked in the sfternoon of same day. Much better corporate image now with well turned out staff and streamlined menu. no separate kids menu but a very helpful waiter confirmed that all mains could be done smaller and that chicken/ spag bol/ omlette were all available. Boy ploughed his way through €20 of monkfish we had lamb and salmon and girl had spagetti tag. Very good food good service and not too busy with attentive waiters...one who alerted us all to the eclipse of the moon ....as it happened.
Bar Nou ( twice)was a big hit this year with what must be the best value Paella in town...low key but spot on service and a great place to sit and watch people. very much enjoyed by all.
Also had good times at Posada D'ariant or the smashing pumpkins restaurant as boy calls it (most will know why?) Boy thought sea bass risotto too sweet and told waiter which illicited apology and glasses of Cava for us and fresh fruit cocktails for kids as way of apology!!! My tuna was excellent and very large. skewered sea food selection for wife also very good
Ca'l Lloro
Hotel does good stuff as well with Paella being nice and kids thinking puds the best. Good relaxed service
La Font del gall twice was good with only my tad overcooked stuffed chicken on the first visit being a minus...they still cannot get all the water and wine chilled though and run out of chilled water each time after 10pm or so...get a bigger fridge!!! service though is spot and just the leisurely pace we like with table ours from 9 till closing
Pre dinner drinks at Cafe Espanyol and mainly Cafe Columbus rounded things off very well. Even a small break in at Villa did not put dampner on poroceedings....some **** forced the kitchen window and stole wife's D & G sunglasses and all our £'s
....luckily left all electronic gear...had to go to Policia Local on PP to file report.
Overall didn't really notice massive up in prices but we did think that there were less Brits and more German/Scand/Spanish this year....I know some didn't ...but we liked the little bloke who played the accordion and sang!!!
Salut!
